<p>The Syracuse University Libraries invites applications for an Information Technology Analyst. This position is responsible for the day-to-day operation, administration, maintenance, and security of IT infrastructure supporting the Libraries' staff and patrons. This position will review requests for system modifications and analyze the complexity, scope, and feasibility of implementing the modifications. They will assist with special projects such as new system implementation, integration, design, or migration. In conjunction with other Library IT (LIT) staff, draft proposals based on the evaluation of new technologies. Responds to security incidents, monitors and mitigates IT security vulnerabilities and threats.</p> <p>Shares, but serves as primary teammate responsible for desktop management/support, account administration, help desk, meeting room, and copier/printing support with other LIT staff members.</p> <p>Education and Experience</p> <p>Required qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and/or experience plus 3-5 years relevant experience in information technologies/computer science, as necessary. </li><li>A valid driver's license and a vehicle are required for this position. </li></ul> <p>Skills and Knowledge</p> <p>Best combination of the follow -</p> <p>Significant understanding of:</p> <ul> <li>Windows and Linux server concepts and best practices. </li><li>Microsoft cloud platform (Office365, Entra) concepts and best practices. </li><li>PowerShell scripting and task automation. </li><li>Windows and macOS client management concepts and best practices. </li><li>Database management (MS SQL, MySQL, SQL). </li><li>Utilization of tools, utilities, and scripting for software packaging, OS deployment, and application deployment such as, Jamf, Intune, Windows Installer, and PowerShell. </li></ul> <p>Ability to:</p> <ul> <li>Create and update documentation for all job duties. </li><li>Communicate well and is a team player. </li><li>Work collaboratively on multi-disciplinary teams. </li></ul> <p>Demonstrated experience with:</p> <ul> <li>Investigating, diagnosing, and resolving complex technology issues </li><li>Desktop operating systems (Windows, MacOS). </li><li>Network printer and copier deployment, configuration, and troubleshooting using a Windows print server. </li><li>Fleet management tools (Intune, Jamf). </li><li>Virtualization environments (VMWare). </li><li>Network topology knowledge and troubleshooting skills. </li></ul> <p>Responsibilities</p> <p>Desktop Management/Support</p> <ul> <li>Utilize tools, utilities, and scripting for software packaging, OS deployment, and application deployment such as, Jamf, Intune, Windows Installer, and PowerShell. </li><li>Stay current on computing security, privacy issues, and practice. </li><li>Provide recommendations for enhancements based on best practices. </li><li>Provide desktop management via Intune, PowerShell, and other scripting technologies. </li><li>Coordinate and communicate with other campus IT units. </li><li>Demonstrate skills in investigating, diagnosing, and resolving problems. </li><li>Deploy, maintain, upgrade, ensure security, enable network connectivity, and provide support for all public and staff Windows OS and Macintosh OS workstations in SU Libraries, Records Management, and SU Press. </li><li>Provide expert level support to other LIT staff and advanced users. </li><li>Support (setup, configuration, software, and hardware upgrades) for copiers, printers, scanners, RFID equipment, barcode scanners, and other equipment. </li><li>Provide responsive and friendly customer service. </li><li>Provide presentation room support by maintaining and troubleshooting computers, data projectors, PA system, and other required equipment. </li></ul> <p>Special Projects:</p> <ul> <li>Review requests for system modifications and analyze the complexity, scope, and feasibility of implementing the modifications. </li><li>Assist with special projects, such as new system/application implementation, integration, system migration, or database conversion. </li><li>In conjunction with other LIT staff, draft proposals based on the evaluation of new technologies. </li></ul> <p>System Administration</p> <ul> <li>Administer multiple types of servers (VMware, Linux, and Windows). </li><li>Provide system monitoring and performance tuning of the servers. </li><li>Utilize tools and utilities for system and network administration. </li><li>Utilize virtualization software such as VMware. </li><li>Program server-side automation routines using scripting technologies. </li><li>Employ various network protocols, such as TCP/IP, SMTP, TLS, and SSH. </li><li>Create system and program documentation as needed for new and existing systems. </li><li>Recommend changes to existing systems or implementation of new systems as needed to improve the efficiency of the system or the process. </li><li>Database management using common tools and SQL. </li></ul> <p>Help Desk</p> <ul> <li>Communicate effectively with Libraries' staff, understand the nature of the library functions, and provide support and creative solutions. </li><li>Share responsibility for answering help desk extension and checking help desk email account. </li><li>Analyze requests and enter them in the help desk system, assign to appropriate LIT staff member, and follow-up with Libraries' and/or technical staff when necessary. </li><li>Ensure that problem reports are dealt with in a timely manner. </li><li>Resolve escalated tickets from helpdesk and complicated troubleshooting issues. </li></ul> <p>Professional Development</p> <ul> <li>Engage in self-learning activities to stay on top of emerging technologies.
