<p>The Academic and Professional Advisor plays an important role in the work of the College of Arts and Sciences and Maxwell advising team. This position will be a professional advisor serving undergraduate students with majors affiliated with health professions career outcomes and will report to the Director of Pre-Health Advising.</p> <p>Primary responsibilities include fully integrated academic and career advising to assigned caseload. This includes but is not limited to advising declared undergraduate students with regard all curricular requirements, helping students navigate the processes associated with their academic records and registration, guiding students to make progress toward degree for timely graduation, and helping students prepare for after graduation, with career and job search planning or the graduate school application process.</p> <p>This role requires collaboration with the advising team, faculty, and departments to provide outstanding service to our students, supporting their academic and professional goals and timely completion of their degrees.</p> <p>Education and Experience</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree, Masters preferred. </li><li>3+ years of experience in academic advising at the college-level is preferred. </li></ul> <p>Skills and Knowledge</p> <ul> <li>Maintain knowledge of all academic advising and career counseling functions of the school and of allied offices to effectively advise students, faculty, faculty advisors and other defined stakeholders. </li><li>Expert level knowledge in academic counseling methods and career modeling will be required to interpret and communicate results of individual aptitude and career assessment instruments with this population. </li><li>Career exploration and counseling experience is required as part of academic advising experience. </li><li>Ability to communicate and work with diverse populations is necessary, as are excellent interpersonal, planning, teamwork, and organizational skills. </li><li>Ability to independently interpret and make recommendations for improvement in advising policy and procedure. </li></ul> <p>Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Provide academic and professional (career and graduate pathway) advising in one-on-one sessions for assigned cohort of undergraduate students. </li><li>Ensure requirements are met for all undergraduate students for on-time graduation. </li><li>Support assigned advising team in degree audits, regular communications with advisees, maintain up-to-date and accurate student records utilizing University's prescribed software. </li><li>Assist students in proper utilization and learning of all career-related software including but not limited to Handshake, Big Interview, VMock GoinGlobal, etc. </li><li>Must have a collaborative nature and proven ability to work as part of a team. </li><li>Ability to facilitate work between a wide range of individuals and groups including prospective students, alumni, faculty, and staff. </li><li>Present a variety of workshops for undergraduate students on topics such as selection of a major and/or minor, program requirements, credits required for programs selected, career-related workshops including career development, job search strategies, and graduate school planning. </li><li>Support planning of special events that facilitate group advising, including collaborative events across campus that pertain to Arts and Sciences/Maxwell students. </li><li>Collaborate and maintain relationships with faculty and staff in schools and colleges within SU to help identify and guide students toward successful college and post college paths with a focus on law related paths. </li><li>Partner with Alumni and/or Employer relations (Central) to assist students in achieving education and career goals. </li><li>Serve as main point of contact with students and guide them through various program options in the University. </li><li>Maintain collaborative relationship with lead advisors. </li><li>Identify, track, and report metrics on all career-related outcomes such as student appointments, career education engagement, internships, and placement into career and graduate school. </li><li>Administer and interpret career-related assessments. </li><li>Collect these data points utilizing the university-wide shared career technology software. </li><li>Report metrics to advising leadership as requested. </li><li>Evaluate progress and reassess programming and delivery for continuous improvement of student success, give suggestions for innovation and ongoing improvement to lead advisors. </li></ul> <p>Physical Requirements</p> <p>Not Applicable</p> <p>Tools/Equipment</p> <p>Not Applicable</p> <p>Application Instructions</p> <p>In addition to completing an online application, please attach a resume and cover letter.</p>
