<p>Harris-Stowe State University is a historically Black institution (HBCU) located in the heart of vibrant mid-town St. Louis, Missouri. Harris-Stowe's beautiful campus is minutes from the renowned Gateway Arch, St. Louis Zoo, St. Louis Art and History Museums, Forest Park, and other cultural and educational institutions. Harris-Stowe's diverse faculty and staff provide a wide range of academic programs to one of the St. Louis region's most culturally diverse student bodies.</p> <p>Job Summary</p> <p>The Harris-Stowe State University TRIO Pre-Collegiate programs (Upward Bound and Talent Search) are currently seeking enthusiastic teachers to join its Summer Academic Faculty for the summer program that runs June 8 - July 10, 2025. We are seeking faculty with a desire to set high expectations, deliver exceptional learning experiences, and a commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of our students. Instructors will design and deliver innovative lessons to support students from 9th - 12th grade in their academic and/or elective subjects for added learning and preparation for High School and Collegiate Studies. Instructional design and delivery are expected to be differentiated, innovative, hands-on, creative and/ or utilize various technology platforms are encouraged.</p> <p>The TRIO Summer Faculty position is a temporary teaching position during the TRIO Pre- college Summer Component for students rising in grades 9 - 12. The program runs Monday - Thursday, and the typical teaching day is from 9:00 am - 3:00 pm. In addition to teaching the content of their specific position, teachers are also expected to attend professional development, collect student performance data and participate in development of individual student learning plans. All Summer Faculty will be required to attend a Professional Development session and student orientation from May 29 - June 1.</p> <p>Available Positions Include: Math, Foreign Language, English, College Preparation, Science, Robotics, Psychology</p> <p>Essential Functions</p> <ul> <li>Attend required Staff Training and Student Orientation Sessions prior to the Beginning of the Summer Academy. </li><li>Participate in Program Awards Ceremonies activities. </li><li>Lead up to four sections of their subject area, two days per week (Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday) during Weeks 1-5. </li><li>Creatively engage Scholars in up to 6 Hours of Course sessions each week. </li><li>6 Hours of Office Hours each week. </li><li>Hold weekly Standing Meetings with Supplemental Educator/Tutor Assistants. </li><li>Update Grades and Attendance weekly. </li><li>Conduct Pre and Post-Test Assessments to measure Growth throughout the Course. </li><li>Create and submit Syllabus outlining Session Design (Assignments and Materials). </li><li>Attend weekly Team Meetings to assess Scholar Performance, review Concerns and highlight Successes. </li><li>Demonstrate Integrity, Dependability, and a Passion for Promoting College Access and Student Success </li></ul> <p>Minimum Education and Experience</p> <ul> <li>An earned Bachelor's degree in a related acceptable field from an accredited university. </li><li>Teaching and/or counseling experience - high school and/or through college. </li><li>Demonstrated expertise in teaching/ counseling the target population (high school 9-12th grades). </li><li>Ability to plan and coordinate activities, as well as being able to relate to people in a positive way. </li><li>Able to conduct classes in an interesting, fun and productive learning environment. </li><li>Regular, consistent attendance is mandatory, excellent communication, written and verbal skills. </li><li>The successful candidate will also possess the dispositions of professionalism, competence, reflection, and the ability to work with diverse populations of students, faculty, and community partners. This individual must be a team player and adhere to policy, procedures, and timelines </li></ul> <p>Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:</p> <ul> <li>Analyze survey results to determine the effectiveness of programming </li><li>Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision </li><li>Strong organizational skills and attention to detail </li><li>Excellent verbal and written communication skills </li><li>Strong interpersonal skills </li></ul> <p>Supervisory Responsibility:</p> <ul> <li>Yes/No </li></ul> <p>Physical Requirements:</p> <ul> <li>Must be able to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, and pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body </li><li>Light work usually requires walking or standing to a significant degree. </li></ul> <p>Working Conditions and Environment:</p> <ul> <li>Work is routinely performed in a typical interior/office environment </li><li>Very limited or no exposure to physical risk </li></ul> <p>Harris-Stowe State University is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
