<p>THE POSITION</p> <p>Are you skilled in automotive mechanics and interested in using your expertise to help inmates learn a valuable trade during their incarceration? The Department of Corrections at the State Correctional Institution at Dallas is seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual who enjoys teaching to join our team as a Corrections Automotive Mechanic Trade Instructor. If you have the required experience and are looking for a rewarding career in automotive mechanic instruction, the Department of Corrections encourages you to apply.</p> <p>DESCRIPTION OF WORK</p> <p>An employee in this position provides structured on-the-job training and shop instruction to inmates in the automotive mechanic trade, with the goal of building vocational skills that support employability upon reentry into the community. Work involves closely supervising and instructing inmates during classroom sessions, hands-on training, and assigned shop tasks. Employees are responsible for the care, custody, and control of inmates throughout all training and work activities.</p> <p>Assignments are typically received through work orders, which may include diagrams, charts, sketches, or schematics. Employees independently determine the appropriate procedures, tools, equipment, and materials that inmates will use to complete these assignments. Work is performed under general supervision and is evaluated by a technical or administrative supervisor through conferences, reports, and inspections of completed work to ensure compliance with industry and trade competency standards.</p> <p>Interested in learning more? Check your email, including spam/junk folders, for these notices. </li></ul> <p>REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY</p> <p>QUALIFICATIONS</p> <p>Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:</p> <ul> <li>Four years of experience in the diagnosis, maintenance, repair, and replacement of various components and systems used in automobiles, trucks, or construction or heavy equipment; or </li><li>Completion of an approved apprenticeship in the automotive mechanic trade; or </li><li>An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes one year of journey level work in the automotive mechanic trade. </li></ul> <p>Special Requirements:</p> <ul> <li>This position requires possession of an active Motor Vehicle Air Conditioning Technician Certificate issued by an approved provider. </li><li>This position requires possession of an active motor vehicle license. </li><li>This position requires possession of an active Pennsylvania Emissions Inspection Certification. </li><li>This position requires possession of an active Pennsylvania Inspection Mechanic Certification for Class C vehicles and Class 7. </li></ul> <p>Other Requirements:</p> <ul> <li>This position is subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations. </li><li>Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required. </li><li>You must meet the PA residency requirement.
