<p>General Job Information</p> <p>JOB SUMMARY</p> <p>This position is located in the DC Department of Corrections (DOC), Central Detention Facility (CDF) and Correctional Treatment Facility (CTF). The Department of Corrections provides public safety by ensuring the safe, secure, and humane confinement of pre-trail detainees and sentenced misdemeanant inmates. The management and operation of the District correctional system fosters community and business confidence and security. The position is established to plan, coordinate and implement a program designed to deliver trauma services to inmates who require treatment and meet the criterion.</p> <p>DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES</p> <p>Implements the DC Department of Corrections (DOC) Trauma Focused Crime Victims Project at CDF and CTF to men and women between the ages of 18-26 years old referred for exposure to trauma (including sexual trauma), and/or loss and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Implements trauma focused clinical services by providing individual and weekly group therapy specific to those suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and/or increased levels of trauma exposure within the facility utilizing Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and other appropriate approaches. Reviews intake assessments for trauma and social, medical and mental health and other collateral information and utilizes standardized criteria to determine the appropriate course of treatment in the least restrictive environment. Conducts trauma screening tools to assess and identify recipients of services and consults with case managers and custody staff to identify levels of self-harm of acuity. Provides information and data as needed for grant reports with our grant partner, William Wendt Center for Loss and Healing, who provides intensive training to the incumbent to mirror a similar model of services within the correctional setting. Develops comprehensive diagnostic assessments and provides a broad range of clinical services to inmates and provides crisis intervention services as needed. Serves as a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team presenting results of the diagnostic assessments, proposing interventions, therapeutic strategies and writes Interdisciplinary Recovery Plans. Works closely with treatment team members in establishing short and long-term goals and objectives for inmates and makes recommendations to the teams as part of the treatment planning process. Handles referrals received from various sources including case management, behavioral health staff, and/or the mental contract provider when it is deemed necessary for someone experiencing trauma to be evaluated and/or receive trauma-focused services.</p> <p>Participates in treatment planning and implementation by attending treatment team meetings, case conferences, and multi-disciplinary review or individual sessions with inmates. Develops and/or modifies a comprehensive treatment, support plan, community placement plan, risk management plan or behavior plan for assigned clients. Coordinates and integrates services with other treatment staff, monitors inmates 'progress and compliance with treatment activities, participates as a member of the treatment teams, represents the agency or Department and is liaison with the community. Completes written documentation of contact with inmates according to established policy and ensures information is available to other members of the treatment team; responds to inmate communications based on departmental policy; completes required consent for treatment and inform inmates of confidentiality policies and mandatory reporting. Maintains required documentation in all areas, including, but not limited to admission notes, assessments, daily charting, weekly clinical staffing note and referrals for discharge according to DOC standards. Makes referrals to appropriate internal and external resources. Attends staff, committee, and other scheduled meetings to discuss and provide input concerning behavioral plans/risk management plans and any other critical inmate needs. Participates in in-service training, seminars and continuing education programs to enhance knowledge, skills, and abilities related to job performance and presents in-service training to other staff. May serve as a training instructor, providing instruction to staff regarding trauma and other mental health components. Provides court testimony and attends court hearings, if required.</p> <p>QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION</p> <p>Degree that included at least 24 semester hours of course work in the behavioral or social sciences.</p> <p>or</p> <p>Combination of education and experience that included at least 24 semester hours of course work in the behavioral or social sciences, and that provided applicants with knowledge of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a 4-year degree.</p> <p>In addition, Specialized Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, one (1) year of specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression.</p> <p>LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION</p> <p>DC Mental Health License Required - LGSW, LICSW, LGPC or LPC Only. Independent licensure (LPC or LICSW).</p> <p>WORKING CONDITIONS/ENVIRONMENT</p> <p>The work is performed in correctional institution / jail setting. The work environment involves high risks with exposure to unpredictable situations where danger is not always obvious.</p> <p>PROMOTION POTENTIAL</p> <p>No Promotion Potential</p> <p>OTHER SIGNIFICANT FACTS</p> <p>Tour of Duty: 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.</p> <p>Pay Plan, Series and Grade: CS-101-12</p> <p>Duration of Appointment: Career Service - Regular Appointment.</p> <p>Promotion Potential: No</p> <p>Collective Bargaining Unit: This position is not covered under a collective bargaining agreement.</p> <p>Position Designation: The incumbent of this position will be subject to enhanced suitability screening pursuant to Chapter 4 of DC Personnel Regulations, Suitability Safety Sensitive. The incumbent must be able to pass a criminal background check; therefore, you may be required to provide information about your criminal history in order to be appointment to this position. You will be subject to drug and alcohol testing in accordance with the Department of Corrections Mandatory Drug and Alcohol Testing.
