This hands-on, industry-aligned program prepares students for entry into electric utility line worker apprenticeships and careers in the power industry.</p> <p>Essential Duties</p> <p>The following list is not intended as, nor should it be construed as, exhaustive of all responsibilities, skills or working conditions associated with this position.</p> <p>The Part-Time Instructor will deliver classroom instruction and hands-on field training for a 14-week, daytime, 525-hour Powerline Worker Pre-Apprenticeship program. Instruction will be aligned with National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) Core and Powerline Worker Level 1 curriculum standards. Instruction will take place at the Choptank Electric Cooperative training site in Salisbury, Maryland.</p> <p>Essential responsibilities include:</p> <ul> <li>Delivering engaging classroom instruction and hands-on field/lab training </li><li>Instructing students in U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) safety practices, electrical theory and powerline operations </li><li>Teaching and evaluating proper use of tools, equipment and safety procedures </li><li>Facilitating labs including pole climbing, aerial framing, rigging, bucket truck and digger derrick operations </li><li>Preparing students for the NCCER module reviews and testing </li><li>Maintaining a safe training environment and enforcing all safety protocols </li><li>Supporting student skill development, professionalism and employability </li><li>Collaborating with Wor-Wic staff and industry partners as needed </li></ul> <p>Courses include:</p> <ul> <li>OSHA safety and emergency response procedures </li><li>American Traffic Safety Services Association (ATSSA) traffic control </li><li>CPR, First Aid and AED </li><li>Construction hand and power tools </li><li>Construction drawings and basic construction math\ </li><li>Material handling and rigging </li><li>Electrical theory, circuits and power generation, transmission and distribution </li><li>Wooden pole climbing and climbing structures other than wood </li><li>Aerial framing and hardware installation </li><li>Bucket truck and digger derrick operations </li><li>Pole setting and pulling </li><li>Trenching, excavating and boring equipment </li><li>Electrical test equipment </li><li>Transformer banking </li><li>Underground termination, cabling and splicing </li><li>Basic metering techniques </li></ul> <p>Minimum Requirements</p> <ul> <li>High school diploma or the equivalent </li><li>5 years of experience as a Journeyman Lineman or equivalent powerline worker experience </li><li>Demonstrated knowledge of powerline construction, safety and utility operations </li><li>Ability to teach both classroom and hands-on field instruction </li><li>Strong communication and interpersonal skills </li><li>Preference will be given to applicants with: </li><li>Prior supervisory experience </li><li>Prior teaching or training experience </li><li>NCCER Instructor Certification (or willingness to obtain) </li><li>OSHA 10/30 certification (or willingness to obtain) </li><li>CPR/First Aid/AED instructor credential (or willingness to obtain) </li></ul> <p>Supplemental Information</p> <p>This is a part-time contractual position that works 525 instructional hours over a period of 14 weeks. Benefits are not available for this position.
