<p>Description</p> <p>The City's Office of Financial Empowerment in the Community Services Division of the Department of Community, Neighborhood & Housing Services, is seeking a part-time Community Engagement Coordinator to support outreach, events, and digital communications that expand awareness of available programs and services and help strengthen financial wellbeing in the Gaithersburg community. This is a short-term position, grant-funded through approximately April 2028.</p> <p>The Community Engagement Coordinator takes a lead role in organizing community outreach and financial education events (approximately 1-2 per quarter), including booking venues, ordering food, managing registration, coordinating with outside partners, and ensuring the smooth execution of the event. The position also supports the Office's digital community engagement by curating, editing, and publishing the monthly "Financial Empowerment Monthly" newsletter and preparing fliers and other materials. The successful candidate will work both independently and collaboratively to keep projects moving, coordinate logistics, and ensure the Office's messaging reaches those who need it most.</p> <p>Must have strong communication (verbal and written), customer service, and technology skills and the ability to quickly learn about the operations and procedures of the Community Services Division and other City Departments. The ability to communicate fluently (speak, read, write, understand) in English and Spanish is preferred.</p> <p>Five to ten hours per week depending on operational needs. Routine evening and weekend work is expected to fulfill public outreach and event coordination goals; with the exception of events, which must be conducted on site as scheduled, work duties may be conducted remotely on a flexible schedule (including outside the City's typical business hours of operation). Starting hourly rate is negotiable within the range ($25 to $32 per hour) and will be offered at a level consistent with the experience and qualifications of the candidate. Direct deposit of paychecks is a condition of employment for all City of Gaithersburg employees.</p> <p>Job Functions</p> <p>What you will do with us:</p> <ul> <li>Provide outreach to City neighborhoods, nonprofits, and community partners to increase awareness of the City's financial empowerment initiatives and promote volunteer and partnership opportunities. </li><li>Conduct ongoing research and analysis of best practice models for community outreach and service provision. </li><li>Develop, coordinate, organize, and implement one to two community outreach and financial education events per quarter. </li><li>Provide regular reports on event outcomes; track attendance and summarize participant feedback. </li><li>Manage the Office of Financial Empowerment outreach and events calendar. </li><li>Remain fully informed of services provided by the Office of Financial Empowerment and offer collaborative and program support, including assessing client needs and providing resources. </li><li>Develop, design, update, maintain, and distribute public relations and marketing materials, including a monthly email newsletter, select web pages, and public event calendars. </li><li>Schedule, train, and supervises part-time interns and/or volunteers. </li><li>Provide excellent service, pursue continuous improvement, and exceed expectations. </li></ul> <p>Key responsibilities are highlighted above; please click here to view the complete classification description for the Community Engagement Coordinator position.</p> <p>Qualifications</p> <p>What you will need to be considered:</p> <ul> <li>High School Diploma + 60 hours of relevant post-secondary education (required); relevant bachelor's degree preferred. </li><li>At least two years of experience in organized public or private sector programs involving human or social services administration. </li><li>Strong organizational, customer service, and verbal and written communication skills. </li><li>Ability to fluently communicate (speak, read, write, understand) in English and Spanish (preferred). </li><li>Experience planning and promoting community events a plus. </li><li>Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse populations. </li><li>Skills in public relations marketing, and digital communications. </li><li>Proficiency with Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.). </li><li>Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and responsibilities and to work effectively independently and as part of the team. </li><li>Demonstrated ability to handle confidential or sensitive information/documents with discretion. </li><li>Valid driver's license. </li><li>Or any acceptable equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to satisfactorily perform the essential functions of the job. </li></ul> <p>Additional Information</p> <p>Interested applicants must submit the following to be considered:</p> <ul> <li>A complete online application. </li><li>Current Resume (attached to the online application) </li><li>Letter of Interest (attached to the online application) </li></ul> <p>Your cover letter should highlight why you are interested in the position, and your resume and letter should discuss past relevant experience and convey how that experience, in addition to your other special skills and abilities, make you uniquely qualified to serve in this position.</p> <p>Review of applications will begin immediately, so prompt application is strongly encouraged.
