The EEG Tech I will perform EEGs procedures according to facility policy and procedures. The EEG Tech I will maintain patient safety during clinically significant events, and other related duties. Communication skills are essential for this position. During EEG procedures for which competence has not been achieved, the EEG Tech I trains under direct technical supervision. Once training is completed and all required institution competencies have been achieved, the EEG Tech I works under indirect technical supervision.</p> <p>Additional Information:</p> <p>Required Education:</p> <p>EEG Pathway Options</p> <p>Recommended Education:</p> <p>EEG Pathway Options</p> <p>Required Work Experience:</p> <p>Recommended Work Experience:</p> <p>EEG Pathway 1 - High School Graduate or equivalent; CAAHEP Accredited NDT Program Graduate; Current CPR/BLS certification, EEG Pathway 2 - High School Graduate or equivalent; Non-CAAHEP Formal NDT Program Graduate; Current CPR/BLS certification, EEG Pathway 3 - High School Graduate or equivalent; RPSGT Certificate, EEG Pathway 4 - High School Graduate or equivalent; 1 year experience and completion of ASET Core Curriculum, EEG Pathway 5 - High School Graduate or equivalent; 2 years of clinical EEG/PSG experience, EEG Pathway 6 - Associates Degree (Higher Degree Acceptable)</p> <p>Required Certifications:</p> <p>1 of the following EEG Pathways -</p> <p>Recommended Certifications:</p> <p>EEG Pathway 1 - EEG Pathway 1 - High School Graduate or equivalent; CAAHEP Accredited NDT Program Graduate; Current CPR/BLS certification, EEG Pathway 2 - EEG Pathway 2 - High School Graduate or equivalent; Non-CAAHEP Formal NDT Program Graduate; Current CPR/BLS certification, EEG Pathway 3 - EEG Pathway 3 - High School Graduate or equivalent; RPSGT Certificate, EEG Pathway 4 - EEG Pathway 4 - High School Graduate or equivalent; 1 year experience and completion of ASET Core Curriculum, EEG Pathway 5 - EEG Pathway 5 - High School Graduate or equivalent; 2 years of clinical EEG/PSG experience, EEG Pathway 6 - EEG Pathway 6 - Associates Degree (Higher Degree Acceptable)</p> <p>Description</p> <ol> <li> <p>Ensures electrode application in adherence with the International 10-20 System</p> </li><li> <p>Knowledgeable in correct EEG performance and recognition of clinically significant events and follows facility policy and procedures regarding critical test results</p> </li><li> <p>Maintains the patient's safety through communication to other patient care support staff during EEG if needed</p> </li><li> <p>Continues to learn and apply basic and intermediate EEG waveform recognition, relevant medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, infection control, current HIPPA practices, contraindications for activation procedures, instrumentation and preparation for use</p> </li><li> <p>Performs patient assessment as related to care such as electrode fixation product allergies, movement restrictions, and cognitive function</p> </li><li> <p>Knows and recognizes drug and physiological status effects on activity monitored</p> </li><li> <p>Communicates appropriately and effectively with the patient and healthcare staff to convey the purpose of the EEG and answers questions regarding the procedure</p> </li><li> <p>Understands why and how to maintain correct electrode connections</p> </li><li> <p>Identifies and performs basic and intermediate technical troubleshooting and artifact identification and eliminations</p> </li><li> <p>Understands and follows concepts of digital equipment and electrical safety within the EEG unit</p> </li><li> <p>Has knowledge of alternate montages, protocols, and alternate equipment settings and their effects should be applied</p> </li><li> <p>Familiar with the facility policy and procedures for completion of the technical EEG report, charging procedures, and logging the patient into files</p> </li><li> <p>Contacts supervisory staff as appropriate for problems within the EEG unit, stocks supplies and prepares patient rooms for EEG procedures</p> </li><li> <p>Other duties as assigned</p> </li></ol>
