<p>Positon Summary:</p> <p>Blue River Valley High School is seeking an experienced and passionate Boys Basketball Varsity</p> <p>Coach to lead our high school team. The Boys' Varsity Head Basketball Coach is responsible for</p> <p>overseeing and leading the high school sports program, providing guidance and instruction to</p> <p>student-athletes, and fostering a positive and competitive team environment. The head coach is</p> <p>expected to promote skill development, sportsmanship, teamwork, and academic success among</p> <p>team members and will demonstrate strong leadership, effective communication, and a deep</p> <p>understanding of basketball coaching techniques and strategies.</p> <p>Program & Philosophical Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Uphold the core values, mission, and standards of the school's athletic program. </li><li>Align coaching philosophy and system with the Varsity Head Coach to ensure a cohesive program from JV to Varsity. </li><li>Act as a positive role model, emphasizing sportsmanship, integrity, respect, and character development. </li><li>Foster a positive, inclusive, and safe team environment that prioritizes effort, learning, and teamwork over winning. </li><li>Understand and embrace the developmental role of the JV team: preparing players for future varsity competition. </li></ul> <p>Administrative & Organizational Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>In coordination with the Athletic Director and Varsity Coach, plan, schedule, and lead all tryouts, practices, and team meetings. </li><li>Manage all logistical details for games and tournaments, including transportation, uniforms, and equipment. </li><li>Ensure all player paperwork (physicals, consent forms) is complete and submitted to the Athletic Director. </li><li>Manage and account for all team equipment and uniforms, distributing and collecting them seasonally. </li><li>Communicate clearly, consistently, and professionally with players, parents, school administration, and the coaching staff. </li><li>Adhere to the school and state athletic association's rules, regulations, and codes of conduct. </li></ul> <p>Coaching & Player Development Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Teach and drill the fundamental skills of basketball: shooting, ball-handling, passing, rebounding, and defensive footwork. </li><li>Implement and teach the offensive and defensive systems used by the varsity program. </li><li>Develop practice plans that are structured, efficient, age-appropriate, and focused on skill development. </li><li>Provide constructive, positive, and individualized feedback to help each player improve. </li><li>Focus on basketball IQ: teaching players how to read the game, make smart decisions, and understand situational play. </li><li>Monitor and encourage academic performance and personal conduct of team members. </li></ul> <p>Game Day Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Develop game strategies and prepare the team for opponents. </li><li>Provide calm, clear, and encouraging instruction during timeouts and from the sideline. </li><li>Represent the school with professionalism when interacting with officials, opposing coaches, and fans. </li><li>Ensure player safety and proper conduct on the bench and during games. </li><li>Conduct post-game analysis with the team, focusing on lessons learned and areas for improvement. </li></ul> <p>Safety & Wellness Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Supervise players at all times during practices, games, and team events. </li><li>Ensure a safe practice and playing environment, checking courts and equipment for hazards. </li><li>Promote and teach proper warm-up, cool-down, and hydration protocols. </li><li>Be certified in and execute basic First Aid and CPR; manage minor injuries and recognize when to refer to the athletic trainer or for professional medical attention. </li></ul> <p>Communication Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Hold a pre-season parent/player meeting to set expectations, explain the philosophy, and outline the season. </li><li>Maintain open lines of communication with parents regarding their son's progress, team policies, and schedule changes. </li><li>Serve as a liaison between JV players and the Varsity Head Coach, communicating player progress and readiness. </li><li>Report scores and highlights to the Athletic Director or designated media contact after games. </li></ul> <p>Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Strong knowledge of the specific sport, including rules, strategies, and techniques. </li><li>Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with student-athletes, parents, colleagues, and administrators. </li><li>Demonstrated ability to motivate and inspire student-athletes to achieve their goals while fostering a positive team environment. </li><li>Good organizational skills to plan and manage practices, games, and team logistics effectively. </li><li>Commitment to the academic success and personal development of student-athletes. </li><li>CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain certification. </li><li>Knowledge of relevant health and safety protocols and a commitment to ensuring the well-being of student-athletes. </li><li>Flexibility to work irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, and travel for competitions as required. </li></ul> <p>Requirements:</p> <ul> <li>Must pass a background check as required by the school district. </li><li>Coaches may need to transport athletes in corporation vehicles from time to time, a valid drivers license is required to meet this responsibility. </li><li>Availability for practices and games. </li><li>Commitment to upholding Blue River Valley Schools' values and code of conduct for student-athletes. </li></ul> <p>? Stipend based on teacher's master contract.</p>
