<p>The School of Professional Studies is seeking an adjunct instructor to develop and teach the new course Human Disease Mechanisms & Translation, and the corresponding seminar for a planned undergraduate degree in life sciences.</p> <p>The course will be offered in an online, synchronous, semester-based format geared toward part-time, adult undergraduate students. The course will examine human physiology and pathophysiology, focusing on the molecular and genetic mechanisms underlying various diseases. Students will learn about specific disease areas, their targets, and the rationale for therapeutic interventions, including genetically targeted therapies. The course covers translational medicine, biomarkers, personalized medicine, pharmacokinetics, and pharmacodynamics. By the end of the course, students will develop skills in understanding disease progression, therapeutic strategies, and the translation of research findings into clinical applications, essential for working in a biopharmaceutical setting. The seminar will build on core coursework by guiding interactive discussions, case studies, and equipping students with critical analysis and application skills essential for entry-level careers in the field.</p> <p>The instructor will add their subject matter expertise and real-world examples, partnering with MCPHS leaders to ensure content is relevant to employers. As part of the course development process, the instructor will partner with a project manager and instructional design manager. The instructor will play an important role in the continuous improvement and overall success of the course. This role is crucial in establishing the foundation of our new Bachelor of Science program, directly impacting its quality and future success. The instructor will help shape the learning experience for our students and will contribute to the growth of this exciting new academic offering.</p> <ul> <li>Work with assigned course designer to develop content (assignments, presentations, readings, discussion boards, quizzes, exams) as needed. </li><li>Develop and provide students with an approved syllabus that includes course objectives and learning outcomes, teaching methodology, attendance policies in line with those of the School, texts and readings, assignments and deliverables, timelines, and evaluation criteria. </li><li>Deliver course instruction, using the University learning management system and digital tools. </li><li>Use the University's learning management system to post syllabus, assignments, and other materials and to communicate with students. </li><li>Advise and assist students through office hours or scheduled appointments, by video conference, phone or email, and through other University-approved mechanisms. </li><li>Provide service, including student mentoring, ongoing course development, and collaboration towards a new certificate in life sciences industry fundamentals. </li><li>Maintain communication with the Program Director and Assistant Dean, identifying any students of concern and relaying student progress. </li><li>Maintain a presence in the course as directed by the Program Director, including answering student emails promptly, participating in interactive course elements where necessary. </li><li>Ensure the course meets the high-quality standards of other MCPHS online and on-campus courses. </li><li>Identify tactics to improve the course based on feedback. </li><li>Additional responsibilities may be assigned by the supervisor. </li></ul>
