<p>Scheduled Hours</p> <p>40</p> <p>Position Summary</p> <p>Position performs routine and complex microscopy procedures under the general supervision of the laboratory manager, preparing tissue and related surgical specimens submitted for ultra-structural analysis and has a working knowledge of the transmission electron microscope.</p> <p>Job Description</p> <p>Primary Duties & Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Conducts sample preparations for electron microscopy, including tissue fixation, processing, embedding, thick sectioning, and staining techniques for light microscopy, ultra-thin sectioning, and grid preparation, observing specimens under the electron microscope for quality control.</p> </li><li> <p>Performs electron microscopy observation and digital and conventional photography procedures.</p> </li><li> <p>Performs special electron microscopy procedures in the preparation of whole-tissue specimens, cytology, and hematology specimens and cultured cell samples.</p> </li><li> <p>Performs quality controls for all equipment and troubleshoots malfunctioning instrumentation as necessary.</p> </li><li> <p>Assists with recording data and tracking instrument usage.</p> </li><li> <p>Performs basic laboratory maintenance such as washing glassware, and preparing solutions and replenishing stock solutions as needed.</p> </li><li> <p>Recognizes problem situations and participates in problem solving; informs supervisor of unusual situations and requests technical assistance.</p> </li><li> <p>Complies with all regulatory and client requirements for testing and documentation.</p> </li><li> <p>Assists electron microscopy manager in training and assisting others in use of equipment in the electron microscopy laboratory.</p> </li><li> <p>Participates in relevant continuing education; mandatory participation in weekly lab meeting.</p> </li><li> <p>Assists laboratory manager with other duties and special projects as needed.</p> </li><li> <p>Will also be involved in research projects in the electron microscopy lab and will be encouraged to expand and develop new skills.</p> </li></ul> <p>The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work performed by people assigned to this classification.
