<p>McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston, a leading academic health center, invites applications for a full-time Genetic Counselor, non-tenure clinical track Instructor, or Assistant Professor position in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences.</p> <p>The selected faculty member will provide genetic counseling to individuals whose genetic background may pose hereditary risks to their children and coordinate communication between the patient and the multidisciplinary team during diagnosis and evaluation of these conditions.</p> <p>Position Key Accountabilities:</p> <ul> <li>Obtains patient and family historical medical data and interprets data obtained to determine possible problem areas. </li><li>Assists patients in understanding genetic diseases or birth defects to provide professional counseling services. </li><li>Assesses patient needs related to emotional stress, fear of test results, financial or transportation issues, marital conflicts, or patient-physician conflicts to make proper referral recommendations. </li><li>Updates the medical records and keeps team members apprised of patient problems. </li><li>Refers patients for tests or to other assistance, such as a social worker. </li><li>Monitors information resulting from test results and agency referrals and reviews cases for further evaluation to assure continuity of patient care and education of the patient's family about the disease/problem. </li><li>Performs other duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Current board certification or board eligibility by the American Board of Medical Genetics or American Board of Genetic Counselors. </li><li>Master's degree in human genetics and counseling or a related field. </li><li>No experience required. </li></ul>
