<p>Position Summary</p> <p>The Middle School ELA Teacher is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction in English language arts to students in grades 6, 7, and 8. This educator creates engaging, standards-aligned lessons that support literacy development (reading, writing, speaking, listening, and language), fosters a positive and inclusive classroom environment, and promotes student success academically and socially. Instruction should align with Indiana Academic Standards for English/Language Arts and district curriculum expectations.</p> <p>Essential Duties & Responsibilities</p> <p>Instruction & Curriculum</p> <ul> <li>Plan, prepare, and deliver disciplined, engaging ELA lessons aligned with Indiana state standards. </li><li>Teach reading, writing, vocabulary, grammar, literature analysis, and communication skills. </li><li>Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs. </li><li>Integrate technology and multimedia resources to enhance learning. </li><li>Use formative and summative assessments to monitor and report student progress; adjust instruction based on data. </li></ul> <p>Classroom Management & Culture</p> <ul> <li>Establish and maintain a safe, respectful, and supportive classroom environment. </li><li>Manage student behavior using approved procedures and foster a culture of high expectations and growth mindset. </li><li>Encourage student engagement, collaboration, and critical thinking. </li></ul> <p>Communication & Professionalism</p> <ul> <li>Communicate proactively with students' families about progress, behavior, and classroom events. </li><li>Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and assessments. </li><li>Collaborate with grade-level teams, support staff, and school leadership. </li><li>Participate in professional development and faculty meetings. </li></ul> <p>Additional Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Support school-wide initiatives, extracurricular academic or literacy activities, and parent engagement events. </li><li>Uphold district policies, state law, and school standards in all instructional and professional duties. </li></ul> <p>Required Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree in English, Education, or a related field. </li><li>Valid Indiana teaching license with appropriate English/Language Arts endorsement for grades 6-8. </li><li>Strong knowledge of ELA curriculum, instructional best practices, and assessment strategies. </li><li>Excellent communication, classroom management, and interpersonal skills. </li></ul>
