This position requires accuracy, attention to detail, and the ability to exercise independent judgment and problem-solving skills. The Cashier plays a key role in ensuring students are served efficiently while maintaining compliance with food service regulations and financial accountability standards.</p> <p>Examples of Job Duties:</p> <ul> <li>Enters pre-payments into the point-of-sale (POS) system prior to breakfast and lunch service. </li><li>Prepares the cash register for daily operations, including setting up the cash drawer with appropriate change. </li><li>Monitors dietary notes and alerts in the POS system to prevent students with food allergies from receiving restricted food items. </li><li>Accurately rings sales into the POS system for meals, milk, and à la carte items; collects correct payment and returns change. </li><li>Understands and applies National School Lunch, Breakfast, and Snack Program regulations to ensure accurate classification of reimbursable meals. </li><li>Operates basic kitchen tools and utensils to assist with food preparation tasks as needed (e.g., weighing, washing, peeling, mixing). </li><li>Assists with food preparation and food service, ensuring proper handling and storage temperatures. </li><li>Inspects and maintains cleanliness and service standards at assigned workstations. </li><li>Maintains records and submits supply or equipment requests as needed. </li><li>Cleans and sanitizes all work areas, utensils, and equipment in accordance with School Lunch policies and health regulations. </li><li>Counts cash drawer, records totals, prepares bank deposit slips, and secures funds in a locked or tamper-resistant bank bag at the end of each day. </li><li>Maintains confidentiality and complies with USDA regulations by preventing overt identification of student meal eligibility status. </li><li>Greets students, staff, and visitors in a friendly and helpful manner; responds to inquiries or refers concerns to the Cook Manager. </li><li>Contributes to a positive school environment through courteous conduct, neat appearance, and professional interactions. </li><li>Attends required staff meetings and in-service training sessions. </li><li>Assists with restocking supplies, general cleaning, and other kitchen tasks as time allows. </li><li>Maintains a clean and orderly work area; practices proper personal hygiene and dress code compliance. </li><li>Operates kitchen equipment safely (e.g., cash register, dishwasher) and reports any malfunctions. </li><li>Adheres to strict sanitation protocols, including proper glove use and food safety practices. </li><li>Completes assigned tasks efficiently and assists coworkers with other duties when cashiering responsibilities are not being performed. </li><li>Performs additional duties as assigned by the Cook Manager, High School Manager, or Food Service Manager. </li></ul> <p>Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:</p> <ul> <li>Knowledge of basic math and the ability to handle cash transactions accurately. </li><li>Proficiency with computers, including point-of-sale systems and basic recordkeeping tools. </li><li>Understanding of safe food handling, sanitation, and safety practices. </li><li>Ability to maintain accurate records and follow written and verbal instructions. </li><li>Ability to work quickly and efficiently during peak meal service times. </li><li>Strong communication skills and the ability to work cooperatively with coworkers, students, and staff. </li><li>Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds. </li><li>Ability to safely operate kitchen equipment and follow all safety procedures. </li><li>Ability to maintain a neat, clean personal appearance and follow hygiene guidelines. </li></ul> <p>Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>High school diploma or equivalent </li><li>Experience handling cash </li><li>Must have working knowledge of basic math applications and computations skills </li></ul> <p>Working Environment & Equipment Used: The job's functions requires the following physical demands: occasional lifting (30 pounds maximum), carrying, pushing and/or pulling; some climbing; some stooping, kneeling, crouching and/or crawling; and significant reaching, handling, speaking, writing, hearing, and fine finger dexterity; frequent standing, walking, and sitting, and lifting up to 30 pounds.
