<p>2025 - 2026 School Year</p> <p>Bridgeport Public Schools</p> <p>Human Resources Department</p> <p>45 Lyon Terrace, Room 324</p> <p>Bridgeport, CT 06604</p> <p>SCHOOL SOCIAL WORKER- SPECIAL ED</p> <p>STEP/SALARY RANGE: MA - 6TH YEAR / $53,432.00 - $105,070.00*</p> <p>GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION:</p> <p>The School Social Worker is responsible for providing school social work services to diverse student populations whose behavior interferes with educational performance.</p> <p>RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <ul> <li>Performs counseling services to students with diverse issues. </li><li>Performs direct service to students that present with behavioral issues. </li><li>Confers with students individually, within the classroom setting or in groups. </li><li>Establishes and maintaining professional relationships with school personnel and professional in the community. </li><li>Assesses and interprets mental health, environmental and socio-economic issues. </li><li>Determines appropriate level of service to meet adaptive needs of students. </li><li>Provides feedback to school staff regarding student behavioral functioning. </li><li>Assists in the development and implementation of comprehensive behavioral plans for students. </li><li>Selects or develops goals specific to student needs. </li><li>Participates in IEP/PPT meetings and consults regarding the compilation of documentation for student records. </li><li>Attendance at selective professional development conferences/seminars to further enhance professional knowledge. </li><li>Collaborates with administrators, teachers, parents, agencies, and paraprofessionals in planning to meet the needs of individual students. </li><li>Maintains accurate and complete records. </li><li>Motivates and reinforce positive student behavior. </li><li>Establishes and maintain procedures and routines. </li><li>Makes constructive use of resources. </li><li>Provides consultation and support to school personnel in dealing with problematic behavior. </li><li>Assists parents/guardians in gaining a better understanding of student's strengths and weaknesses. </li><li>Provides support to parents. </li><li>Helps parents understand the need for special programs, special education, counseling or other educational services. </li><li>Acts as an advocate for students, families and community agencies. </li><li>Serves as a liaison between schools, families and community providers. </li><li>Enables students to cope more successfully with school, home and environmental stressors. </li><li>Models good attendance and punctuality. </li><li>Other duties as directed by the Director of School Social Work. </li></ul> <p>REQUIREMENTS:</p> <ul> <li>Certification as a School Social Worker (071). </li><li>A master's degree in the area of Social Work. </li><li>Preferred - experience in urban setting. </li><li>Preferred - knowledge of Special Education. </li><li>Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills. </li><li>Ability to meet deadlines. </li></ul> <p>This job description is not, nor is it intended to be, a complete statement of all duties, functions, responsibilities, qualifications, physical, and cognitive, which comprise this position.
