<p>Peer Mentor (Part-Time Student Employee)</p> <p>Department: Advising</p> <p>Location: Wellesley Hills and Virtual</p> <p>MassBay fosters educational excellence and academic success to prepare students for local and global citizenship, to meet critical workforce demands of communities, and to contribute to the region's economic development.</p> <p>Massachusetts Bay Community College values diversity, inclusion, and collaboration. We strongly encourage members of underrepresented communities to apply to join our community.</p> <p>Located in Greater Boston, MassBay is a comprehensive, open-access community college offering associate degrees and certificate programs on three campuses in Wellesley Hills, Framingham, and Ashland, Massachusetts.</p> <p>Position Summary:</p> <p>The ideal candidate will join a vibrant and inclusive educational community and have a desire and ability to work with a diverse population. This is a part-time, student employment position with no benefits.</p> <p>The Peer Mentor Program at MassBay Community College links new MassBay Community College students (mentees) with experienced MassBay Community College students (Peer Mentors) to support students throughout their first year of college. Peer Mentors work collaboratively to engage mentees in academic and social activities that increase involvement and meaningful engagement in a positive college experience, working along-side Academic Advisors to support a caseload of degree and/or certificate-seeking mentees throughout their first year at MassBay. Peer Mentors will support mentees in developing advocacy skills, acclimating to their first year of College life, and connecting students with resources, offices, and services to help them find success at MassBay.</p> <p>Peer Mentors will be trained and supported by staff in the Academic Advising, Coaching, and Transfer department, with on-going professional development, team meetings, and individual coaching. This is an incredible opportunity to build a professional network, develop personal and professional skills within a college department, and contribute to the MassBay community.</p> <p>Key Responsibilities and Duties:</p> <ul> <li>Collaborate with Academic Advisors in the Academic Advising, Coaching, and Transfer department to support a caseload of new students (mentees) throughout their first year; </li><li>Work on the Wellesley Hills Campus in the Advising, Transfer, and Coaching Commons office space, and virtually, to interact with staff and students; </li><li>Provide in-person and virtual support to assigned mentees on a weekly basis and communicate via a texting software, email, Teams, WebEx, and/or phone; </li><li>Assist Academic Advisors with various tasks including outreach to their caseload of advisees to schedule appointments and communicate important reminders and updates; </li><li>Be a resource to mentees on common questions such as technology assistance or academic deadlines; </li><li>Assist mentees with learning how to utilize BayNavigator, Blackboard, and College e-mail; </li><li>Guide mentees with effective ways to communicate with faculty and advisors; </li><li>Assist mentees in connecting with MassBay's resources both in-person and virtually; make appropriate referrals to offices and support services. </li><li>Promote engagement and involvement in campus activities and student organizations; </li><li>Collaborate with other offices to develop and implement programming and events around student success; </li><li>Visit classes to inform students of campus resources and upcoming events; </li><li>Help mentees transition in their first semester in becoming acclimated to MassBay campus and culture; </li><li>Maintain documentation of communications, outreach, and interactions with mentees; </li><li>Attend required trainings, staff meetings, and caseload meetings with academic advisors. </li></ul> <p>Commitment to Equity:</p> <ul> <li>Support MassBay's commitment to the Equity Agenda; </li><li>Support MassBay's commitment to being anti-racist; embracing a community free of bias and inequality. </li></ul> <p>This list is not to be considered all-inclusive.
