<p>Job Description: Instructor</p> <p>About our Instructors: NCE Instructors deliver engaging and educational classes and programming to</p> <p>students of all ages. Instructors are responsible for class preparation and planning, teaching, student</p> <p>supervision, attendance and all safety protocols, cleanup, and online meeting hosting (if applicable).</p> <p>Instructors are organized, flexible and able to problem-solve; calm under pressure; effective</p> <p>communicators with adults and children, and should have experience working in an educational or</p> <p>recreational setting.</p> <p>About Newton Community Education:</p> <p>Our mission is to build a strong, inclusive community through learning, enrichment, and connection. Ability and commitment to abide by all standards and practices detailed in the Kids Instructor</p> <p>Expectations or Adult Instructor Expectations documents</p> <p>? Support NCE's commitment to inclusion and access by participating in the Financial Assistance</p> <p>Policy</p> <p>? 2+ years' experience in the field taught. If a Kids or Teen class, 2+ working with children in an</p> <p>educational or recreational setting</p> <p>? Strong expertise and enthusiasm in relevant content area</p> <p>? An inclusive mindset and commitment to engaging all enrolled students regardless of</p> <p>background, level of experience, English language ability, etc.</p> <p>? History of reliability, punctuality, and overall responsibility.</p> <p>? Proficiency in a second language a plus</p> <p>? Excellent references</p> <p>? Clean CORI/SORI/fingerprint background check</p> <p>? For online teachers, strong technological competency and online meeting hosting skills are a</p> <p>must</p> <p>Essential Job Duties</p> <p>? Actively work to support NCE's mission and values</p> <p>? Provide a course description to NCE program coordinator</p> <p>? Provide the program coordinator with a syllabus/plan for progressively developing students' skills</p> <p>over the course of the program at least 3 weeks prior to the start of the course. The course</p> <p>should have clear learning objectives and the activities of each lesson should be planned in</p> <p>advance to meet those objectives</p> <p>? Prepare materials necessary for the course and each class, including preparing and garnering</p> <p>approval for a materials budget if applicable. Visuals are important for access for English</p> <p>language learners and students with hearing impairments and should be posted and clear as</p> <p>much as possible</p> <p>? Use intentional activities and language to foster a sense of belonging and community in the</p> <p>classroom. Unless it is explicitly a lecture for adults, classes should have students doing</p> <p>and/or talking the majority of the time.</p> <p>? Ensure students leave with an enriched understanding and sense of enthusiasm for the content</p> <p>area</p> <p>? Supervise students during class and ensure their safety. Enlist NCE site coordinators for</p> <p>assistance as needed. Notify program coordinators of any issues and incidents immediately.</p> <p>(see Expectations documents for details)</p> <p>? Support students with special needs as communicated by NCE office staff</p> <p>? Oversee respectful use of classroom space, including preparing classroom for class and leaving it</p> <p>in good condition</p> <p>? Teach make-up classes as necessitated by weather or unforeseen circumstances</p> <p>? For online instructors, secure everything needed for equipment and technology prior to class</p> <p>? Respond and adjust to NCE staff feedback</p> <p>Work Environment & Physical Requirements:</p> <p>? Ability to quickly navigate around a school building and outdoor areas</p> <p>? Ability to lift up to 35 lbs</p>
