<p>WYCOPHD Environmental Health Infrastructure Coordinator</p> <p>The Unified Government of Wyandotte County VISTA Project strengthens local capacity to improve environmental health and access to essential infrastructure for low-income and underserved residents. This position supports the Public Health Department by developing sustainable systems to digitize, organize, and utilize historic septic system records, improving access to critical data for decision-making and service delivery. The VISTA member will design and implement a standardized digital records management system for septic permits dating from 1950-2021, including processes for data tracking, quality assurance, and long-term maintenance. These efforts will improve efficiency in responding to public records requests and support coordination with Public Works to determine whether properties are connected to sewer systems or rely on septic infrastructure. Using these systems, the VISTA member will assist in mapping septic system locations and identifying areas with aging or high-risk infrastructure. This work will help the county better understand service gaps, particularly in northern and eastern areas where residents are more likely to rely on septic systems. The project will support data-informed planning for infrastructure improvements, maintenance needs, and community outreach. By strengthening data systems and improving access to information, this project will increase the county's ability to connect residents to safe wastewater services, reduce environmental health risks, and support access to resources that contribute to improved health and economic stability. The member will create tools to log key data fields and identify missing or incomplete records, improving access to information for internal use and public requests. Using these systems, the VISTA will support mapping of septic system locations and analysis of areas with aging or high-risk infrastructure.
