<p>The OR Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) supports the Nurse Manager (NM) with supervisory duties and responsibility and accountability for the 24/7 operation of their designated units. They provide coverage for other ANMs as needed. The ANM has responsibility and accountability for the direction and supervision of specific orientation, training, development of staff, and provides input into the evaluation of individual staff performance.</p> <p>The OR Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) functions as a role model, educator, practitioner, and supervisor providing leadership to the team. They enhance care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team to remove barriers and implement new evidence-based cutting-edge programs and processes.</p> <p>The ANM ensures the OR department is staffed for safe and efficient patient care per Association of Perioperative Registered Nurse (AORN) recommendations. The ANM provides direct patient care to intraoperative patients as needed to ensure safe staffing ratios are maintained 100% of the time. The ANM assists staff to facilitate first case on-time start times to the OR. The ANM makes necessary adjustments to staffing schedules to best accommodate the demands of the variable perioperative schedule.</p> <p>The ANM will collaborate with the NM in the hiring process, provide feedback for staff proficiency ratings/evaluations, modeling and assuring positive behavior, provides oversight for the administration of leave, mentoring/counseling and disciplinary actions, as needed, in collaboration with the Nurse Manager. The ANM assumes an active role in labor/management partnership and supports EEO principles and programs. They adhere to ethical principles in decision-making, fostering accountability at personal, organizational, and staff levels. The ANM works with the NM on the department staffing effectiveness and daily staffing schedule. The ANM acts as the Nurse Manager during the times of NM absences.</p> <p>The ANM collaborates with the NM to provide content for staff meetings to facilitate communication and disseminate information for unit and facility level programs and best practices. The ANM will partner with the Perioperative Nurse Educator and NM on the initial and on-going staff competency program for the department, they will apply the clinical skills</p> <p>necessary to identify and coordinate education and staff development needs, to all levels of staff.</p> <p>The ANM engages in professional organizations to enhance leadership and career growth. They equip staff with tools for competent care and promote accountability for high-quality, cost-effective outcomes. The ANM will cultivate alliances across the care continuum, building trust through active listening, engagement, and emotional intelligence. They promote a workplace environment committed to achieving the organization's vision and mission.</p> <p>The ANM contributes to the development of care delivery models and environmental design, ensuring evidence-based, accessible, affordable, and equitable patient care. Aligns nursing/clinical objectives with organizational strategic outcomes, participating in strategy planning and execution. The ANM will assist the performance improvement (Pl) process and</p> <p>promote goals related to patient and staff satisfaction, VASQIP, and the adherence to specialty recommendations of care and standards of practice from VA, VHA, AORN, The Joint Commission, and other like regulatory/professional organizations. As a registered nurse, the ANM is also responsible for contribution to the establishment and implementation of evidence-based nursing standard of practice by supporting and providing resources to the unit-based practice council.</p> <p>The ANM maintains knowledge and ensures compliance with all regulatory and accreditation standards, Directives, policies, and standard operating procedures (SOP). The ANM along with the NM assumes overall accountability for nurse sensitive measures at the unit level including the collection, analysis and reporting of outcomes data. Assist the staff in interpreting the collection, analysis and reporting of outcome data and serve as a leader in working towards improving nursing care for optimal patient outcomes. The ANM participates in the development, review, and revision, of Nursing policies/procedures to ensure compliance; supports implementation of these policies, actively contributes to performance measures for the VAMC, VISN and VHA. Assurance is made for ongoing readiness with regulatory bodies/agencies both internal and external to VHA all the while ensuring the ANA code of Ethics for Nurses is followed.</p> <p>The ANM functions clinically as a direct care provider as a member of the OR nursing staff to provide direct care to surgical patients in the intraoperative setting to maintain critical patient care skills necessary to implement and evaluate unit needs. The ANM will provide direct care as needed to ensure safe staffing ratios are maintained.
