<p>Job Description : Vice Principal</p> <p>At the Florida Ruffin Ridley School, we are constantly striving to deliver the highest quality instruction for our students and maintain a community that values and honors each individual that makes up the vibrant tapestry of our school. That means teaching and leading from a place of collaboration, celebration, love, and an unrelenting drive for developing and fostering strong relationships with each student and family.</p> <p>Our priorities of increasing literacy achievement for all students, developing clear behavioral expectations and responses aligned to social/emotional curriculum, creating and maintaining a positive collaborative and supportive environment, and fostering citizenship that promotes equity and social justice through increasing levels of cultural proficiency help guide us in our day to day and long term decision making as a school community. These priorities ground our professional development work and how we organize systems, routines, and procedures that support the vibrant buzzing community of families, students, and staff.</p> <p>Educators at the Florida Ruffin Ridley School are engaged in constant school-wide conversations around engaging with research based instructional practices that support our vision of educational equity for each student, the importance of social emotional learning that supports a life-long love of learning, and how to nurture classroom and school cultures in which each student and family feels connected, respected, and valued. We are looking for a team member who can contribute to our school in these ways.</p> <p>The Job Goal: Under the supervision of the Principal, the Vice Principal will help manage the building and supervise the educational program in the school by providing support and direction to the teaching staff in such a way as to create an environment that meets the academic and personal needs of the students.</p> <p>Reports to: The Principal</p> <p>Supervises: Building staff as designated by the Principal</p> <p>Major Duties: Staff Supervision and Evaluation:</p> <ul> <li>Assist the Principal in interviewing, hiring and orienting new teachers. </li><li>Assist the Principal in the supervision of teachers through classroom observation and consultation with individual teachers. </li><li>Assist the Principal in the evaluation of teachers and make written recommendations to the Principal as requested. </li></ul> <p>Curriculum Supervision:</p> <ul> <li>Assist and advise the Principal in managing curriculum within the building. </li><li>Assist the Principal in planning and conducting faculty meetings and in-service programs in cooperation with the Elementary Curriculum Coordinators when appropriate. </li></ul> <p>Instructional Leadership:</p> <ul> <li>Assist the Principal with instructional leadership. </li><li>Assist the Principal in initiating and implementing system and school instructional goals. </li><li>Be familiar with various best practices and research-based techniques for diverse learners. </li></ul> <p>Budget Preparation and Administration:</p> <ul> <li>Helps the Principal determine budget priorities including personnel needs. </li><li>Assist the Principal in preparing budget requests for review by the Deputy Superintendent for Teaching and Learning prior to its submission to the Deputy Superintendent for Administration and Finance. </li><li>Assist the Principal in allocating supplies and instructional materials to the classroom. </li></ul> <p>Managerial Duties:</p> <ul> <li>Reviews substitute coverage daily, arranges for in-house coverage if needed, , provides for substitute building orientation and supervises their classroom performance. </li><li>Assist the Principal in scheduling classes, preparing groupings for the succeeding year, and scheduling changes resulting from field trips and other special events. </li><li>Coordinate, arrange and supervise extra-curricular and after school activities programs. </li><li>Assigns student teachers, cooperative interns, volunteers, and coordinates and supervises in-service programs as needed to improve their experiences </li><li>Assist the Principal in the articulation and enforcement of school regulations including the school attendance process. </li><li>Coordinate and supervise in-service programs as needed to improve the effectiveness of student teachers, cooperative interns and volunteers. </li><li>Assist the Principal in the articulation and enforcement of school protocols and procedures including the school attendance process. </li><li>Assist the Principal in planning and conducting family meetings. </li><li>Assigns and supervises personnel to oversee recess periods. </li><li>Assist the Principal in the supervision of custodial and cafeteria staff. </li><li>Supervise the cafeteria and pick-up/drop-off procedures. </li></ul> <p>Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Massachusetts Certificate in Elementary Education, Principal/Vice Principal License </li><li>Three years successful teaching experience in grades K through 8. </li><li>Master's Degree </li><li>Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the School Committee may find appropriate and acceptable. </li><li>demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills </li></ul> <p>Preferred Skills:</p> <ul> <li>Familiarity with Aspen, Teachpoint, AESOP and Google products </li><li>Experience with organizing ACCESS and MCAS testing </li></ul> <p>Terms of Employment: 195 days, Unit B Contract</p> <p>Evaluation: Conducted by Principals</p>
