<p>Pacific College of Health and Science is seeking a dynamic individual for the onsite, full-time position of Clinical Practice Department Chair at our New York campus.</p> <p>General Job Summary:</p> <p>The Department chair is responsible for the daily management of departmental activities. These include supervising faculty and maintaining educational quality and consistency. Department chairs communicate regularly with the academic dean and with faculty members in their department and act on important issues at the departmental level.</p> <p>Department chairs work closely with the academic dean to develop the agenda and chair their department meeting each semester.</p> <p>Department chairs will also be directly responsible for teaching and/or supervising 12-15 hours per week for 15 weeks each semester and 20 weekly administrative hours.</p> <p>Essential Functions:</p> <ul> <li>Recruit, orient, and train new faculty. </li><li>Monitor and advise on educational resources. </li><li>Participate in hiring committee and actively support faculty recruitment. </li><li>Provide teacher training where necessary and problem-solve. </li><li>Ensure mid-term class feedback is collected for all faculty teaching a new class. </li><li>Ensure class observation feedback is provided in the first term. </li><li>Promote student retention through sound academic support. </li></ul> <p>Evaluate and Mentor Faculty:</p> <ul> <li>Mentor existing faculty. </li><li>Complete classroom evaluations of all faculty annually. </li><li>Read end of semester evaluations for faculty in their departments and advise faculty as necessary on areas for improvement. </li><li>Provide Dean with evaluations that need to be reviewed. </li><li>Establish and review Professional Action Plans with faculty annually and forward them to the Dean. </li><li>Conduct Annual Performance Evaluations with faculty and forward them to the Dean. </li></ul> <p>Advise Academic Dean on Faculty Development:</p> <ul> <li>Serve as a key advisor to Dean on academic affairs matters. </li><li>Provide constructive feedback for improvement of teaching and facilitate opportunities for peer coaching. </li><li>Provide proactive communication with Dean on faculty and departmental issues. </li><li>Serve as a point of contact/liaison between the eLearning department, the faculty, and the Dean. </li></ul> <p>Curriculum Development and Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Provide leadership in developing and maintaining learning outcomes that align with Program Learning Outcomes and Institutional Learning Outcomes. </li><li>Review course learning outcomes (CLOs) for all courses. </li><li>Establish and reviewing course learning outcomes (CLOs) and program learning outcomes (PLOs) </li><li>Map CLOs to assignments in all classes, recommend revisions, and document CLO grids per term. </li><li>Coordinate course reviews with lead faculty at least one course review per term. </li><li>Provide leadership in department education, including teaching, program review and assessment, and continuous improvement of curriculum. </li><li>Ensure that all faculty update and submit their syllabi and resources every semester. </li><li>Monitor departmental course syllabi for quality and consistency each term. </li></ul> <p>Comprehensive Exams (Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine Programs only):</p> <ul> <li>Contribute comprehensive exam questions. </li><li>Request comprehensive exam questions from faculty. </li><li>Review, revise, and improve comprehensive exams. </li><li>Coordinate comprehensive exam review sessions. </li><li>Coordinate, prepare, and oversee on-ground comprehensive exams where applicable (Point Location, Herb ID, CNT, Moxa/cupping) </li><li>Participate in the post exam item analysis in week 16 of each semester. </li></ul> <p>Meeting & Graduation Attendance:</p> <ul> <li>Attend the following meetings every semester: </li><li>Curriculum Advisory Committee (CAC) </li><li>Faculty Forum </li><li>Deans Council meeting </li><li>COMPS committee meeting </li><li>Faculty Governance meetings </li><li>Departmental faculty meetings (organize and run) </li><li>Attend graduation ceremonies each semester and walk in the academic procession. </li></ul> <p>Communication & Student Support:</p> <ul> <li>Maintain channels of communication between the administration and faculty: </li><li>Support strategic goals and objectives related to our mission and vision to provide top-quality education, research, and community service. </li><li>Serve on faculty governance committees. </li><li>Lead effective department meetings, maintain and distribute minutes, and be accountable for follow-up on action items. </li><li>Meet regularly (either scheduled or ad hoc) with the academic dean each semester. </li><li>Facilitate communication between faculty and administration and help to maintain faculty morale. </li><li>Meet with students experiencing academic or behavioral challenges, referring them to appropriate departments as needed. </li><li>Maintain a minimum of 8 office hours each week. Must be available at posted times and locations. </li></ul> <p>The Department Chair will also perform other duties and projects as assigned.</p> <p>Minimum Qualifications & Core Competencies:</p> <ul> <li>Must possess a DACM, DAOM, DACCHM. </li><li>Must hold an active Diplomate status with NCCAOM. </li><li>Must hold an active license in good standing with New York State. </li><li>Proficient computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office Suite (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook) while adaptable and eager to learn new software. </li><li>A high-level of administrative skills and a passion for this aspect of faculty work. </li><li>Familiarity with Moodle or other Learning Management Systems. </li><li>Willingness to use e-learning as a viable alternative to classroom teaching. </li><li>Familiarity working in virtual environments and using web-based technology. </li><li>Willingness to use technology in instruction and course development. </li><li>Employs diverse and contemporary approaches in teaching. </li><li>Exhibits excellent teaching and/or clinical skills. </li><li>Represents the college positively. </li><li>Supports a culture of collaboration and growth at the chair and faculty level. </li><li>Supports the professional advancement of students. </li><li>Respects the chain of command in academic affairs. </li></ul> <p>Salary Expectations: $70,000.00-$75,000.00 annually (32-35 hours per week)</p> <p>Application Instructions: To apply, please submit a cover letter and resume to Chrysso Neophytou-Tsimis, Academic Dean of Graduate Studies at [email protected].
