<p>The New England Conservatory Preparatory School (NEC Prep) offers open-enrollment educational opportunities for pre-college students across New England. It currently serves more than 1500 students in the region, including those enrolled in NEC through a partnership with Walnut Hill School for the Arts. Prep musicians attend individual lessons and classes, and participate in chamber music and 20-22 large ensembles, including orchestras, choruses, and wind ensembles. It is one of the largest programs of its kind in the nation.</p> <p>Position Overview</p> <p>The Suzuki Viola/Violin Teacher will join a small team of trained Suzuki teachers at NEC Prep (New England Conservatory Preparatory School) Suzuki Program and will be responsible for teaching Suzuki group classes and Suzuki private lessons. The program consists of 30 weeks of Saturday private lessons, group classes, concerts, and outside performances. The teacher must be available to teach at NEC on Saturdays and have some weekday afternoon/evening availability for teaching.</p> <p>Essential Functions of the Role</p> <ul> <li> <p>Teach Suzuki group classes on Saturdays at NEC Prep.</p> </li><li> <p>Conduct Suzuki private lessons for students at NEC Prep.</p> </li><li> <p>Collaborate with the team of Suzuki teachers to develop and implement effective teaching strategies.</p> </li><li> <p>Create a supportive and encouraging learning environment for students.</p> </li><li> <p>Prepare students for performances, concerts, and recitals throughout the program.</p> </li><li> <p>Attend faculty meetings and participate in professional development activities as required.</p> </li><li> <p>Provide regular progress reports and feedback to students and parents/guardians.</p> </li><li> <p>Provide weekly group class communication and notes for Suzuki faculty, parents, and students.</p> </li><li> <p>Stay updated with current trends and developments in Suzuki viola and violin teaching and training.</p> </li></ul> <p>Qualifications and Characteristics</p> <p>Candidates should bring many of the following skill sets and experiences:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Successful completion of SAA Suzuki Registered Training in Books 1-4+ (through Book 8+ preferred). Book 3 and up: Viola specific training preferred. Books 1 and 2 Viola or Violin Registered Training are both accepted. Any additional Suzuki Violin Registered Training a plus.</p> </li><li> <p>5 years of experience teaching Suzuki private lessons and group classes preferred.</p> </li><li> <p>Master of Music Degree or equivalent qualification in violin performance or music education.</p> </li><li> <p>Strong knowledge of Suzuki teaching methods, repertoire, and techniques.</p> </li><li> <p>Proficient viola/violin playing skills and ability to demonstrate techniques effectively.</p> </li><li> <p>Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with students, parents/guardians, and colleagues.</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to work collaboratively in a team-based teaching environment.</p> </li><li> <p>Dedication to creating a positive and nurturing learning environment for students.</p> </li><li> <p>Flexibility in scheduling to accommodate both Saturday and weekday teaching commitments.</p> </li></ul> <p>Fall 2025-2026 Position:</p> <p>The selected candidate will be responsible for teaching one or more Suzuki group classes on Saturday mornings and taking on private lesson students in need of placement for Fall and Spring 2025-2026. New faculty will be evaluated by Suzuki coordinators, String Department Chair and Director of Prep.</p> <p>Application Requirements:</p> <p>Interested candidates should submit the following documents:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Curriculum Vitae (CV) detailing relevant qualifications including Suzuki private lesson and group class teaching experience, other teaching experience, and Suzuki training. (Please list Suzuki training, private lesson levels, specific group classes and levels you have taught.)</p> </li><li> <p>Brief biography (Bio) highlighting personal background, teaching philosophy, and relevant achievements.</p> </li><li> <p>Two letters of reference specifically addressing the candidate's teaching abilities.</p> </li><li> <p>Videos of private lesson and group class teaching, each 20-30 minutes in length. Include two private lessons of different levels and one or two group classes (at different levels if submitting two).</p> </li><li> <p>Candidates will be asked to complete an in-person demo teaching lesson, group class and interview which will include playing Suzuki repertoire from Books 1-4.</p> </li><li> <p>Commitment to continue Suzuki pedagogy training, group class training and observation through level 8.</p> </li></ul> <p>Note: This job description is intended to convey information essential to understanding the scope of the position and general nature and level of work performed.
