<p>Sussex County Community College is seeking a part-time Fire Instructor. Courses are in-person on campus at the Public Safety Training Academy.</p> <p>All instructors are responsible for teaching their assigned courses using a departmentally established course outline based on the master syllabus and assessing the course learning outcomes on the syllabus.</p> <p>Under direction, gives instructions and demonstrates various fire-fighting techniques and procedures; instructs students in the use and care of fire-fighting apparatus and equipment and supervises the activities of students participating in fire drills; does related work as assigned.</p> <p>SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <ul> <li>Provides training and instruction in all phases of fire fighting, fire prevention and salvage operations. Lectures on and demonstrates fire prevention and fire protection methods. </li><li>Instruct students in the use and care of various fire-fighting apparatus and the methods of responding to fire alarms. </li><li>Provides instructions and demonstrates various fire-fighting techniques, including forcible entry into burning buildings, use of portable fire extinguishers, ladder climbing, salvage operations, hose layout and hydrant connections, use and care of hoses and protective breathing equipment, rescue and first-aid practices and procedures, and methods of extinguishing fires. </li><li>Monitors student attendance and administers tests to determine student progress and understanding of subject matter. </li><li>Maintains equipment; returns apparatus, equipment, training aids and records to proper storage areas. </li><li>Maintains necessary files and records. </li><li>Performs other duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <ul> <li>Three or more years of experience as a paid or volunteer fire fighter and/or instructor in the use of various fire fighting techniques and procedures in the control and extinguishing of fires in either a paid or volunteer capacity. </li><li>Possession of a valid Fire Service Instructor Certificate, Level 1, issued by the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs. </li></ul> <p>The Learning Management System (LMS) that we use is Canvas. Prior knowledge of Canvas or a similar learning platform is preferred.</p> <p>Sussex County Community College is an Equal Opportunity Employer.</p> <p>Effective September 1, 2011, the NJ First Act requires that certain classifications of persons employed by a public higher education institution will have 365 days within which to establish a principle residence in NJ.
