<p>POSITION SUMMARY</p> <p>The Operations Supervisor is a working supervisor position and is responsible for leading and performing plant operations duties including: monitoring and adjusting physical, chemical and biological treatment processes. Operations Supervisors are also responsible for staff training, oversight, coaching and mentoring. The approximate split of duties is one third administrative/supervisory duties and two thirds leading and performing work.</p> <p>Works under the supervision of the Operations Manager and exercises a high level of independent work and decision making.</p> <p>REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS</p> <p>Reports to: Operations Manager</p> <p>Direct Reports: Up to 5 Wastewater Plant Operators</p> <p>KEY RESPONSIBILITIES</p> <ul> <li>Coaches, mentors, trains and develops operators on technical competencies and behaviors; possesses strong collaboration and communication skills; acts as a subject matter expert on operations and maintenance of the SPR treatment plant. </li><li>Monitors and makes recommendations related to wastewater treatment processes, manually or through the use of a Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition system, including: take levels, chemical feed rates and concentrations, water quality parameters, air and water flow, pump, blower and valve configurations. Makes changes as needed in accordance with Written Operating Plan and under guidance of Operator in Responsible Charge (ORC.) </li><li>Reviews reports of anomalies, needed repairs and troubleshooting. Delegates or leads corrective action and ensures that staff is empowered and properly resourced to make repairs or adjustments as needed. </li><li>Executes, reviews and recommends changes to current Standard Operating Procedures and workflows. Suggest and implement process improvements, efficiencies and optimization where applicable. </li><li>Administers and oversees various field tests to monitor biological and chemical concentrations such as TSS, DO, pH, temperature and alkalinity. </li><li>Assigns and reviews work to subordinates, including: preventive maintenance, daily rounds, housekeeping and project-based work. Ensures quality and completion of work and provides training and resources to staff as needed. </li></ul> <p>The listed examples of work are not intended to be all-inclusive. Developing and delivering information that demonstrate the needs of different audiences.</p> <ul> <li>Is effective in a variety of communication settings: one-on-one, small and large groups, internal/external stakeholders or among diverse styles and position levels. </li><li>Attentively and actively listens to others. </li><li>Adjusts to fit the audience and the message. </li><li>Provides timely and helpful information to others across the organization. </li><li>Encourages the open expression of diverse ideas and opinions. </li></ul> <p>Optimizes Work Processes - Knowing the most effective and efficient processes to get things done, with a focus on continuous improvement.</p> <ul> <li>Follows through on commitments and take personal responsibility for decisions, actions, and failures. </li><li>Identifies and creates the processes necessary to get work done. </li><li>Separates and combines activities into efficient workflow. </li><li>Designs processes and procedures that allow managing from a distance. </li><li>Strives for process improvements, through minor or comprehensive adjustments and changes. </li></ul> <p>QUALIFICATIONS</p> <p>Education, License, Certification, and Work Experience:</p> <ul> <li>Graduation from High School or equivalent diploma. </li><li>Minimum of five (5) years' experience operating a water or wastewater facility. </li><li>Must possess a valid State of Colorado 'A' Wastewater license, or be able to obtain one through reciprocity or renewal. </li><li>Advanced working knowledge of wastewater treatment plant operations, SCADA applications, biological and chemical processes, regulatory application and operating requirements, laboratory procedures and processes including equipment operation and sampling methodology. </li><li>Good verbal and written communication skills. </li><li>Valid Colorado driver's license and a clear or acceptable MVR. </li></ul> <p>Desired Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Associates degree in Water Quality Management, Biological Sciences, Chemistry or related field. </li><li>An equivalent combination of education, training and relevant job experience may be substituted. </li></ul> <p>WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS</p> <p>Requires sitting, walking, carrying, lifting, kneeling, bending, reaching, and squatting. May be required to lift up to 75 pounds. Major activities are performed on level, slippery, sloping, unstable and uneven terrain in a variety of weather conditions. May be exposed to extreme cold, heat, heights, temperature swings, constant noise, mechanical and electrical hazards, fumes, odors, & chemicals. Work is performed in an office, outside, and in an industrial environment.
