<p>Job Summary</p> <p>The Office of Residence Life at Oberlin College and Conservatory invites applications for the Area Coordinator position. This is a Full-time (40 hours a week), 12-month, live-in Administrative and Professional Staff position reporting to the Director of Residential Engagement in the Office of Residence Life.</p> <p>Oberlin College is unique among independent colleges in its commitment to offering students a wide variety of on-campus housing options, such as special interest theme housing, cooperative housing, Village Apartment housing, and traditional housing. Residential living and dining are integral to the educational experience of Oberlin students; more than 90% of Oberlin's students live and dine on campus during their entire 4 to 5 years as undergraduates.</p> <p>The Area Coordinator joins a management team under the leadership of the Assistant Vice President/Dean of Residence Life and Auxiliary Services that includes the Director of Residential Engagement, Director of Residential Housing Operations, Director of Inclusion for Residential Communities, and Director of Conferences and Residential Services.</p> <p>The Area Coordinator is responsible for supporting the programmatic and social aspects within the assigned communities with administrative support from four Assistant Directors. The Area Coordinator will manage all student staff on-call operations within their assigned duty zone and will work to help support management responsibilities in buildings within their assigned communities. This position supports the implementation of the Residential Curriculum for students living in the assigned communities.</p> <p>The Area Coordinator must demonstrate excellent customer service including interpersonal skills with students, parents, faculty, staff and outside community members; effective, compelling publicity for conference service processes and policies; and inclusive interactions that reflect respect and support for students' personal growth, social development, and academic success.</p> <p>Based on departmental needs and candidate interest, the Area Coordinator will be assigned to a specific cluster of communities on campus.</p> <p>Responsibilities</p> <p>The Area Coordinator will have responsibilities in the following areas:</p> <p>Administration, Supervision, and Advising</p> <ul> <li>Supervise, mentor, and evaluate a team of 25-30 Student Staff Members, facilitating biweekly/monthly 1:1 meetings with each individual </li><li>Oversee and support a community of approximately 800-1,000 residents, collaborating with Assistant Directors to triage student needs and concerns </li><li>Assist with student and professional staff hiring </li><li>Participate in regular meetings within the Office of Residence Life and the Division of Student Affairs </li><li>Assist with the check-in, check-out, room inspections, and damage billing processes at the open and close of each semester </li><li>Support Student Staff Members in creating engaged communities that support student development as outlined by the Office of Residence Life </li></ul> <p>Program Implementation and Community Development</p> <ul> <li>Assist with the development and implementation of residential programs in coordination with various departments on campus </li><li>Demonstrate leadership by working with residents, faculty, and staff to develop a space for students to be successful in their personal, academic, and professional pursuits </li><li>Empower residents to create and shape vibrant communities in each residential space </li><li>Remain active and visible within assigned communities </li><li>Support ongoing assessment efforts concerning students and their experience at Oberlin College </li></ul> <p>Advising, Counseling, and Crisis Management</p> <ul> <li>Support students around social, academic, and personal concerns </li><li>Be knowledgeable of college resources and provide appropriate referrals </li><li>Serve in the campus-wide on-call system rotation, responding to crisis situations remotely as appropriate/required </li><li>Serve as a conduct hearing officer, educating residents about residence life and college policies </li></ul> <p>Facility Standards and Safety</p> <ul> <li>Monitor the physical integrity of assigned spaces through weekly walkthroughs and report and follow-up on maintenance concerns </li><li>Oversee life safety inspections and complete necessary follow-up meetings </li></ul> <p>Due to evening and weekend work requirements, this position allows a flexible work schedule in collaboration with Central Office staff. The duties of the Area Coordinator will shift during the summer to assist with office needs related to Conference Services, Housing Selection, and Training. This list is not all-inclusive and all employees are expected to perform other duties as assigned.</p> <p>Essential Job Functions Marginal Job Functions Required Qualifications</p> <p>Bachelor's degree completed with preference given to a person enrolled in a master's degree within student personnel or another student-focused field.</p> <p>Desired Qualifications</p> <p>Excellent oral and written communication skills, strong customer service and organizational skills, proven ability to work collegially with a variety of constituencies, and traits that complement and demonstrate integrity and cooperation in relation to administration and management preferred. Undergraduate experience in the following areas is desirable: residence hall administration, supervision, website development, database management, and oversight of multifaceted processes.</p> <p>Quick Link for Posting https://jobs.oberlin.edu/postings/17309 Compensation</p> <p>Salary is $45,000 with a partially furnished one-bedroom apartment that includes internet access; a full meal plan for employee when dining services is in operation; and professional development funds. A free staff-only laundry room is available for use on campus. All employees of Oberlin College receive a free parking permit, use of the recreational facilities, 35 days paid time off per year, and health benefits.
