<p>Job Summary</p> <p>The purpose and function of the NWS Research & Development Engineer role is to design new optical connectivity solutions that help Lightera customers better deploy and utilize their networks. The Research & Development Engineer is responsible for designing products and solutions, building prototypes and supporting field trials, and supporting operational ramp-up of new products.</p> <p>Major Duties and Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Create 3D modeling, prototypes and show proof of concepts in compressed design cycles. </li><li>Use sound design techniques to develop next generation fiber optic connectivity products. </li><li>Ability to test designs and apply the scientific method of problem solving to development projects </li><li>Conduct initial tests of design prototypes and qualification tests on new product designs </li><li>Evaluate tool made samples supplied by manufacturing for approval </li><li>Provide engineering input to develop New Product Introduction project plan and execute assigned tasks </li><li>Maintain/monitor laboratory equipment and calibration </li><li>Production Support </li><li>Assist production team with manufacturing layouts, operation, and calibration of OFS-owned facilities </li></ul> <p>Job Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>BSME required, Or a Proven Experience with physical design of Optical Apparatus </li><li>3 yrs (required), 10 years (preferred) of experience developing numerous designs of varying degrees of difficulty </li><li>Experience with hyperscale/data centers solutions and/or Fiber-to-the-X preferred </li><li>Strong design and development experience with plastic molded parts and sheet metal formed parts. </li><li>Required experience with development projects as an active team participant, and experience as a project leader </li><li>Strong ability to be self-directed once assigned to a project (Concept to Production) </li><li>Excellent written, oral communications and interpersonal/teamwork skills </li><li>Computer knowledge and skills: Experience with Solidworks, Solid Edge or similar CAD type programs (required). </li><li>Microsoft Office. </li></ul> <p>Additional Requirements:</p> <p>Experience in manufacturing processes, termination and testing of optical connectivity apparatus</p> <p>Personal experience and knowledge of Telecommunications industry standards and fiber optic test procedures</p> <p>Experience with programming and operation of automated testing equipment and systems</p>
