<p>Job Description:</p> <p>Reporting to the Dean of University Library Services, the Assistant Dean of University Library Services is responsible for assists the Dean with the administration of the University Library, overseeing implementation of the Library's strategic plan, overseeing public programs and student engagement initiatives. In the absence of the Dean, the Assistant Dean acts as the chief administrative officer of the University Library.</p> <p>Essential Functions / Characteristics</p> <ul> <li>Assists the Dean with the coordination of University Library operations, related work groups and task forces, and serves as principal back-up to the Dean of University Libraries (e.g. in his absence, by his request) in all administrative affairs of the University Libraries, including personnel matters, budget and payment authorizations, building matters, etc. </li><li>Collaborates with the Dean on periodic planning (for annual budgeting, staffing, and technology needs), policy and procedure formulation and review, and program assessment. </li><li>Assists the Dean with the evaluation of faculty, contributing to the recommendation of reappointment, tenure, promotion, and merit awards. </li><li>Serves as the primary agent for public initiatives, such as public programs (speaker series, Archives, Makerspace, etc.), exhibits, monthly newsletter, and other outreach initiatives as directed by the Dean. </li><li>Serves as primary liaison for library's endowed programs, both in terms of coordination and in stewardship (in association with University Advancement). </li><li>Fulfills role of Scholars at Risk (SAR) Global Student Advocacy Seminar Coordinator (per the terms and contingent upon the ongoing funding from SAR). </li><li>Coordinates and promotes student engagement activities in the library, in which students can have experiential opportunities for their academic and professional growth. </li><li>Represents the University Libraries on university committees as appropriate. </li><li>Oversees University Archives and Makerspace staff, in terms of planning and strategic initiatives. </li></ul> <p>Additional Functions</p> <ul> <li>Performs duties with professionalism, which includes relating to others in a courteous, cooperative, sensitive and congenial manner. </li><li>Represents the University Libraries to various internal and external organizations and activities. </li><li>Serves in the Dean's absence as the chief administrative officer of the University Libraries. </li><li>Performs other duties as determined by the Dean and the Provost. </li></ul> <p>Requirements:</p> <p>ESSENTIAL CHARACTERISTICS:</p> <ol> <li> <p>Excellent verbal and written communication skills.</p> </li><li> <p>Expert knowledge of academic library practices and associated information technology applications.</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to multitask in a fast-paced public service environment.</p> </li><li> <p>Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and time-management skills.</p> </li></ol> <p>PREREQUISITE QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <ol> <li> <p>MA degree.</p> </li><li> <p>At least five years of progressively responsible administrative/managerial employment in a library or higher education capacity.</p> </li><li> <p>Experience in the assessment of library programs and services.</p> </li><li> <p>Scholarly qualifications enabling performance at the associate professor level.</p> </li></ol> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <ol> <li> <p>Demonstrable service record in library initiatives.</p> </li><li> <p>Understanding of academic library operations and standards.</p> </li><li> <p>A comprehensive knowledge of library computer applications, particularly applied to public services.</p> </li><li> <p>A record of national and regional participation in library professional organizations.</p> </li><li> <p>Experience in presenting public programs.</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to work and collaborate with other administrative and academic bodies within the institution.</p> </li></ol> <p>At the University's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be accepted where the candidate can demonstrate, to the satisfaction of the University, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position</p> <p>Additional Information:</p> <p>Roger Williams University is an affirmative action/equal opportunity employer and committed to a diverse workforce.
