Full Time Shift Day Work Schedule Summary</p> <p>Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM, with occasional on-call hours during evenings, weekends, and holidays.</p> <p>VP Area President Department 00460 - Sunnyside Apartments Location Campus City Salt Lake City, UT Type of Recruitment External Posting Pay Rate Range $20.75 - $25.81 DOE Close Date 07/15/2026 Priority Review Date (Note - Posting may close at any time) Job Summary</p> <p>The Building Maintenance Technician III is responsible for the day-to-day maintenance, repair, and preventative maintenance of the Sunnyside Apartments building at the University of Utah. This position serves as the primary maintenance technician assigned to the building and works independently to maintain residential units, common areas, and building systems.</p> <p>The technician performs skilled work across multiple trades including plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and general building maintenance. The role works closely with staff and residents to respond to maintenance requests and help maintain a safe and functional residential environment. Will interact with building residents on daily basis, will seek ways to provide the highest level of customer service.</p> <p>Learn more about the great benefits of working for University of Utah: benefits.utah.edu</p> <p>Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Perform routine, preventive, and corrective maintenance throughout the Sunnyside Apartments building. </li><li>Respond to and complete maintenance service requests from residents and housing staff in a timely and professional manner. </li><li>Troubleshoot and repair plumbing fixtures, lighting, electrical components, doors, locks, cabinetry, drywall, flooring, and other building systems. </li><li>Assist Appliance Technician with removal and replacement of residential appliances such as refrigerators, stoves, and dishwashers when necessary. </li><li>Perform minor carpentry repairs including cabinets, doors, trim, shelving, and hardware. </li><li>Repair and maintain interior finishes including drywall, paint, flooring, and fixtures. </li><li>Conduct regular inspections of building areas to identify maintenance needs and prevent issues. </li><li>Maintain accurate records of maintenance work performed and materials used. </li><li>Coordinate with Facilities Management or outside vendors when specialized repairs are required. </li><li>Maintain maintenance areas, storage rooms, and workspaces in clean and organized condition. </li><li>Assist with apartment unit preparation for move-ins and move-outs </li></ul> <p>Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.</p> <p>Minimum Qualifications</p> <p>EQUIVALENCY STATEMENT: 1 year of higher education can be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience (Example: bachelor's degree = 4 years of directly related work experience).</p> <p>Facilities / Maintenance Technician, III: Requires 3+ years of related experience.</p> <p>Preferences</p> <ul> <li>Experience performing building maintenance in multiple trades such as plumbing, electrical, and carpentry. </li><li>Ability to troubleshoot maintenance issues and perform repairs independently. </li><li>Ability to read equipment manuals and basic diagrams. </li><li>Strong problem-solving and organizational skills. </li><li>Strong customer service and communication skills when working with residents and housing staff. </li><li>Ability to lift and move appliances and maintenance materials. </li><li>Experience in apartment, housing, or residential building maintenance. </li><li>Experience replacing residential appliances. </li><li>Technical training in plumbing, electrical, carpentry, or general building maintenance. </li><li>Experience working independently and managing maintenance responsibilities for a specific building or property. </li><li>A valid drivers license. </li></ul> <p>Type Benefited Staff Special Instructions Summary Additional Information</p> <p>The University is a participating employer with Utah Retirement Systems ("URS").
