<p>Job Responsibilities</p> <p>Job Overview:</p> <p>Are you looking to be part of an innovative team of professionals dedicated to telling South Carolina's diverse stories? As the storytellers of South Carolina, the South Carolina State Museum (SCSM) staff share the rich natural history and cultural diversity, innovative spirit, and artistic creativity of the state through the museum's permanent collections, educational programs, exhibitions and digital resources.</p> <p>SCSM seeks a detail-oriented individual to protect the property of the museum and the rights of individuals against loss or injury due to disorderly acts, accidents, fires or other hazards. The Public Safety Officer plays a crucial role in maintaining a safe, welcoming, and secure environment for visitors, staff, and the collections.</p> <p>Duties/Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Monitor cameras to detect safety hazards, and unusual activity, report specific problems to designated responsible party. </li><li>Respond to emergencies, including emergency call back situations, either at the museum or where assigned when notified to respond. </li><li>Perform duties related to emergency responses as outlined in the museum's Disaster Plan or as directed. </li><li>Complete required shift reports, as necessary, and keeps a file containing all pertinent information that concerns Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) information. </li><li>Check in all employees and visitors at the employee entrance/exit, distribute, collect and log keys and passes, and handle inquiries in person or by phone as required, when posted in the command center. </li><li>Secure the building and arm/disarm alarm systems, when assigned opening or closing shifts. </li><li>Direct employees and guests with authority, composure, and professionalism in the event of an evacuation due to alarms or emergencies. </li><li>Assist with Facility Rentals Office as needed to include assisting with crowd control during special events or exhibitions </li></ul> <p>Minimum and Additional Requirements</p> <p>MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:</p> <ul> <li>A high school diploma and experience in fire prevention, safety or security activities. </li></ul> <p>ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:</p> <ul> <li>Must have strong communication and de-escalation skills and be able to communicate well, both verbally and in writing. </li><li>Must be a team player, have good interpersonal skills, and able to deal effectively with visitors and staff members, both in day-to-day and emergency environments. </li><li>Must be able to access all parts of the facility. </li><li>Requires the ability to prepare and review various types of administrative paperwork, and be proficient with a computer. </li><li>Requires telephone and face-to-face communications and extensive use of a radio and telephone. </li><li>Requires the ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time. </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <ul> <li> <p>CPR and First Aid certification</p> </li><li> <p>Familiarity with security technology (e.g., surveillance systems, access control software)</p> </li></ul> <p>Additional Comments</p> <p>The State Museum Commission is committed to providing equal employment opportunities to all applicants and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy, childbirth or related medical conditions, including, but not limited, to lactation), national origin, age (40 or older), disability or genetic information.</p> <p>Supplemental questions are considered part of your official application.
