<ul> <li> <p>JOB SUMMARY</p> </li><li> <p>Processes Gynecologic and Non-gynecologic specimens, maintains instruments, and completes documentation for the distribution of slides to Cytotechnologists. Serves as a liaison to physician offices, by ensuring that they have adequate supplies for collection.</p> </li><li> <p>DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS</p> </li><li> <p>Overall performance rating of below indicated essential job duties:</p> </li><li> <p>Receives and accessions all gynecologic and non-gynecologic specimens upon receipt in the department.</p> </li><li> <p>Performs collection of all pertinent information needed for testing, and enters that data into the appropriate computer programs.</p> </li><li> <p>Operates all necessary automated instrumentation and keeps appropriate records, (including but not limited to preparing reagents, performing maintenance and troubleshooting) to prepare microscope slides for staining and cover slipping.</p> </li><li> <p>Responsible for distribution of supplies for Cytology testing to physician offices.</p> </li><li> <p>Responsible for aliquoting of samples for ancillary/additional testing.</p> </li><li> <p>EDUCATION/LICENSE/ CERTIFICATIONS/OTHER REQUIREMENTS</p> </li><li> <p>Minimum requirement:</p> </li><li> <p>At least 60 semester hours, or equivalent, from an accredited institution that, at a minimum, include either-</p> </li><li> <p>24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses; or</p> </li><li> <p>24 semester hours of science courses that include-</p> </li><li> <p>Six semester hours of chemistry; and</p> </li><li> <p>Six semester hours of biology; and</p> </li><li> <p>Twelve semester hours of chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory technology in any combination</p> </li><li> <p>Preferred qualifications:</p> </li><li> <p>One year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.</p> </li><li> <p>WORKING ENVIRONMENT</p> </li><li> <p>This job operates in a professional medical laboratory environment</p> </li><li> <p>Regularly works near moving mechanical parts</p> </li><li> <p>Regularly exposed to blood and/or body fluids and infection</p> </li><li> <p>Occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals</p> </li><li> <p>Occasionally exposed to risk of radiation</p> </li><li> <p>The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.</p> </li><li> <p>PHYSICAL DEMANDS</p> </li><li> <p>Occasionally required to maintain a stationary position (standing or sitting)</p> </li><li> <p>Frequently required to walk and move about</p> </li><li> <p>Frequently required to operate a computer and other equipment</p> </li><li> <p>Frequently required to use fine motor skills to handle and operate instruments/devices</p> </li><li> <p>Regularly required to communicate with patients and other care team requiring talking and hearing</p> </li><li> <p>Frequently required to lift and/or move 25 pounds</p> </li><li> <p>Occasionally required to life and/or move 50 pounds</p> </li><li> <p>Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.</p> </li></ul>
