This is a co-terminus, externally grant and contract funded junior faculty position that will report directly to the incoming leader of the CSHP.</p> <p>The faculty member hired under this recruitment will assume a leadership role in best practice use of large-scale or multi-source datasets, including CMS Medicare and Medicaid data, across the Center's autism and intellectual/developmental disabilities portfolio. Responsibilities include designing and implementing complex analytic workflows, developing innovative data visualizations to support research and policy translation, contributing to peer-reviewed publications and policy reports, and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams across study projects. The position also includes mentoring junior researchers, fellows, and staff in quantitative and mixed-methods research, and fostering team-level skills in data science, programming, and reproducible workflows.</p> <p>Experience with advanced analytic tools (e.g., R, Python, SAS, Stata) and translating data insights into actionable policy recommendations is essential. The initial appointment will be for one year, renewable for annual or multi-year periods, depending on productivity, overall performance, and continued availability of funding.</p> <p>Duties of the Position</p> <p>Conduct high-impact, policy-relevant quantitative research on autism and developmental disabilities using advanced data methods</p> <ul> <li>Lead development of quantitatively driven research proposals, including submissions to NIH and other federal funders </li><li>Centralize and manage teamwide initiatives related to the uses of primary (e.g., survey) and secondary (e.g., claims) data to inform a body of ongoing analyses and proposal development </li><li>Prepare scientifically rigorous reports for funders, academic audiences and broad stakeholder constituencies </li><li>Publish peer reviewed, academic articles focused on quantitative analytic findings and methods related to the study of autism and other intellectual/developmental disabilities </li><li>Participate in, and present at, appropriate scientific conferences and professional meetings </li><li>Translate complex data findings for non-technical audiences to maximize the impact of the research, using advanced visualization techniques, including for example, dashboards employing Power Bi and/or Tableau </li><li>Oversee all analytic research completed on the CMS Medicaid claims and encounter data through the Chronic Conditions Data Warehouse (CCW) through the Virtual Research Data Center (VRDC), assuring scientific rigor and compliance with all security standards including, but not limited, to CMS data use agreements. </li></ul> <p>Management of Data Analytic Staff</p> <ul> <li>Oversee diverse analytic staff supporting the autism and intellectual/developmental disabilities research portfolio, including providing guidance and expertise on multiple coding languages including, but not limited to, R, STATA, SAS and Python, </li><li>Identify and implement appropriate analytic training opportunities to facilitate career and scientific advancement of the data team under the direction of this position. </li><li>Develop and execute the data analytic plans for all autism and intellectual/developmental disabilities related projects and coordinate allocation of resources to assure timely completion of deliverables. </li></ul> <p>Position Status Full Time Posting Number 26FA0325 Posting Open Date Posting Close Date 05/01/2026</p> <p>Qualifications</p> <p>Minimum Education and Experience</p> <ul> <li>Master's degree in Data Science/Analytics, Epidemiology/Biostatistics, Public Health, or other related discipline required. </li><li>Minimum of two years of experience managing analytic staff. </li><li>Minimum of three years of experience designing and employing advanced analytic methods in support of academic research. </li><li>Knowledge of autism and intellectual and developmental disabilities policy. </li></ul> <p>Certifications/Licenses Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities</p> <p>Advanced skills in multiple coding platforms, including R, STATA, SAS, and/or Python</p> <p>Preferred Qualifications Equipment Utilized Physical Demands and Work Environment Overview</p> <p>About the Center for State Health Policy</p> <p>Rutgers Center for State Health Policy (Center/CSHP) is an initiative within the Institute for Health, Health Care Policy and Aging Research, which is part of Rutgers Health. Established in 1999 with major funding from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the Center combines Rutgers University's traditional academic strengths in public health, health services research, and social science with applied research and policy analysis initiatives. The Center was conceived in response to the unique and essential role of the states in the formation and implementation of sound health policy.</p> <p>The Center is home to 27 full-time employees and will be welcoming Dr. Lindsay Shea as its new director in July 2026, succeeding Founding Director Joel Cantor.
