<p>About Us:</p> <p>Closet Factory Salt Lake specializes in designing and manufacturing custom cabinetry and storage solutions. We are committed to high-quality craftsmanship and continuous improvement in our manufacturing processes.</p> <p>Position Overview:</p> <p>We are seeking an Engineering Student Intern to support Lean Manufacturing initiatives within our cabinet production operations. Must have knowledge in improving efficiency, reducing waste, and optimizing workflows in a real-world manufacturing environment. The position is ideal for students interested in Six-Sigma Lean Manufacturing(Six Sigma is a method for disciplined quality improvement that provides the tools organizations need to improve the capability of the business processes ), industrial, mechanical, or manufacturing engineering, with the opportunity to continue part-time during the academic year.</p> <p>Key Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>The Role (What You'll Actually Do) </li></ul> <p>You will own production flow across the shop-from CNC cutting through assembly and install readiness.</p> <p>This is not a desk job. You will spend time on the floor working with operators, identifying problems, and implementing solutions.</p> <p>You will:</p> <ul> <li>Map and improve job flow across CNC, edgebanding, assembly, and finishing </li><li>Apply DMAIC in a real-world, job shop environment </li><li>Reduce bottlenecks and control work-in-progress (WIP) </li><li>Improve on-time completion and reduce late jobs </li><li>Implement simple, visual systems for tracking production (not overcomplicated software) </li><li>Establish standard work and hold the team accountable to it </li><li>Work directly with ownership and operators to drive measurable results </li></ul> <p>Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Basic knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles</p> </li><li> <p>Strong problem-solving and analytical skills</p> </li><li> <p>Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; familiarity with data tracking or analysis preferred</p> </li><li> <p>Good communication skills and ability to work in a team environment</p> </li><li> <p>Hands-on mindset and willingness to engage on the production floor</p> </li><li> <p>Exposure to Six Sigma or process improvement methodologies</p> </li></ul> <p>Preferred (but not required):</p> <ul> <li></li><li>Experience in woodworking, cabinetry, or similar industries </li><li>Lean / Six Sigma certification </li><li>Experience in custom or high-mix, low-volume manufacturing </li></ul> <p>Important</p> <p>If your experience is primarily corporate, theoretical, or presentation-based, this role will not be a fit.</p> <p>If you've successfully improved or are interested in improving real production environments, we want to talk.</p> <p>Can be Part Time during academic semesters and Full Time during Summer</p> <p>What You'll Gain:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Practical experience applying lean principles in a cabinet manufacturing setting</p> </li><li> <p>Exposure to real production challenges and process improvement projects</p> </li><li> <p>Opportunity to continue part-time during the school year</p> </li><li> <p>Valuable experience for a career in manufacturing or engineering</p> </li></ul>
