<p>Job Description:</p> <p>POSITION: Dean of Students</p> <p>SCHOOL: Newtown High School, Sandy Hook, CT 06482</p> <p>STARTING DATE: August 13, 2025</p> <p>The Dean of Students supports the Principal and Assistant Principals in managing daily school operations, fostering a positive school culture, and ensuring academic success for all students. The Dean of Students serves as a bridge between students, staff, and families to ensure a safe, inclusive, and respectful learning environment.</p> <p>The Dean of Students</p> <ul> <li>Works closely with staff, administration, parents, and students in various types of situations. </li><li>Maintains student attendance procedures in conjunction with administration and works toward improvement of attendance in school and in classes. </li><li>Assists students and families who are experiencing barriers to successful school engagement and connects them to appropriate resources. </li><li>Communicates effectively and frequently with students, staff, families, and administration to review progress and results. </li><li>Partners with counselors, social workers, and other support staff to provide comprehensive assistance to students. </li><li>Assists in the development and implementation of school policies and procedures. </li></ul> <p>The Dean of Students must be able to</p> <ul> <li>Move about the school building to interact with students, as well as to attend meetings. </li><li>Operate and utilize technology and office equipment. </li><li>Work flexible hours including arriving early and staying late to monitor student arrival and dismissal and attending student activities and events. </li><li>Travel out-of-district periodically to attend workshops and meetings. </li></ul> <p>Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities</p> <ul> <li>Competency in interpersonal relations. </li><li>Ability to communicate ideas clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing. </li><li>Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, including students, staff, and families. </li><li>Cultural competency and commitment to equity and inclusion. </li><li>Knowledge of restorative practices, conflict resolution, and behavior management strategies. </li><li>Strong organizational and time-management abilities. </li></ul> <p>Education, Experience & Certification:</p> <ul> <li>Master's degree </li><li>Minimum of 5 years of teaching experience in an accredited public high school. </li><li>Current Connecticut State Department of Education Teaching Certificate, 092 certification preferred. </li></ul> <p>Work Year:</p> <p>197 days</p> <p>Salary:</p> <p>The salary for this position is subject to contract provisions in accordance with the current teachers' contract, plus 10% of the base salary.</p> <p>APPLICATION: Interested applicants are invited to apply online by May 16, 2025</p> <p>via the following link:</p> <p>https://www.applitrack.com/newtown/onlineapp/default.aspx</p> <p>The Newtown Public School District values the benefits that a diverse workforce brings to our students and community.
