<p>The UVU Math Mentor Program is seeking Team Leads who are passionate about the Math Mentor Program's purpose and student outreach. Eligible applicants include current UVU Math Mentors who will have completed at least 1 full semester as a Math Mentor as of May 1, 2026. Team Leads play an active and vital role in shaping the future of the Math Mentor Program as well as contributing to the success of students enrolled in Math and Quantitative Reasoning (MQR) Department courses. Qualified Team Leads are remarkable mentors who have demonstrated proactive, timely, and high-quality completion of all tasks assigned to them by program administrators and instructors.</p> <p>The Math Mentor Team Lead will assist other team leads along with the Program Director and Coordinator in running the Math Mentor Program. Team Leads are assigned and oversee a group of 4-6 mentors. Team Lead duties include 1) Planning and executing biannual training retreats and weekly trainings, 2) Organizing and carrying out monthly team/program activities, 3) Updating, organizing, and managing program media and technology, 4) Attending weekly Team Lead meetings, and 5) Assisting the program administrators, members, and participants as needed."</p> <ul> <li>Oversee a group of 4-6 math mentors. </li><li>Attend and participate in weekly team lead meetings. </li><li>Perform specific tasks as assigned by the program director and coordinator (tech, marketing, activities, training, etc.) </li><li>Conduct monthly program/team activities. </li><li>Plan and administer bi-annual program training retreats. </li><li>Must be a current UVU student. </li><li>Have completed at least one semester as a UVU math mentor. </li><li>GPA must be at least a 3.0. </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Preference will be given to applicants who consistently turn logs/TIMs in on time without error, respond to all program communications within 24 hours, complete all program and UVU trainings promptly, and discharge their mentor duties as outlined in the mentor contract. </li></ul> <p>Knowledge</p> <ul> <li>Have a thorough knowledge of the UVU Math Mentor Program's purpose, policies, procedures, and general functionality. </li><li>Be knowledgeable in STEM, non-STEM, or both mathematics tracks at the MQR level. </li><li>Familiarity with Canvas, Microsoft Teams, and math learning platforms. </li><li>General understanding of teaching/learning techniques, effective study strategies, and exam preparation techniques. </li><li>Understanding of how to reach, observe, guide, and motivate team members. </li><li>Familiarity with campus resources. </li></ul> <p>Skills:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Communication skills: Excellent verbal, nonverbal, and written communication skills. </p> </li><li> <p>Engage in active and empathetic listening. </p> </li><li> <p>Collaboration skills: Regularly produces relevant and significant contributions in a team environment. </p> </li><li> <p>Receives feedback and promptly implements necessary changes. </p> </li><li> <p>Encourages all group members to share ideas. </p> </li><li> <p>Demonstrates dependability, cooperation, and adaptability. </p> </li><li> <p>Social Intelligence skills: Demonstrates self-awareness, respect for others, tolerance for differences, a growth mindset, and patience. </p> </li><li> <p>Outreach skills: Proven success in contacting struggling students. </p> </li><li> <p>Establishes appropriate mentor/student boundaries. </p> </li><li> <p>Exhibits availability, approachability, and consistency. </p> </li><li> <p>Leadership skills: Understands how to build and maintain relational rapport and trust. </p> </li><li> <p>Proactively contributes ideas and follows through with assigned tasks. </p> </li><li> <p>Addresses conflict productively and offers viable solutions to issues. </p> </li><li> <p>Demonstrates a creative approach to problem-solving. </p> </li><li> <p>Time Management skills: Effective ability to prioritize and organize competing demands. </p> </li></ul> <p>Abillity: </p> <ul> <li>Ability to manage and excel in stressful or high-pressure work situations. </li><li>Ability to adapt to differing preferences and learning styles. </li><li>Ability to be available on either Saturday or Sunday most weekends. </li><li>Ability to identify and diffuse conflict. </li><li>Ability to work well with other mentors, program administrators, and instructors. </li></ul>
