<p>REPORTS TO:</p> <p>Principal</p> <p>EMPLOYMENT STATUS:</p> <p>Regular, full time</p> <p>FLSA STATUS:</p> <p>Exempt</p> <p>POSITION SUMMARY:</p> <p>Assist high school students with the development of skills and knowledge that lead to continuous learning and a productive adult life.</p> <p>ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:</p> <ul> <li>Assess student achievement continuously, in order to design appropriate instruction. Administer standardized and criterion referenced tests according to district policies and procedures. </li><li>Provide appropriate instruction for all students. </li><li>Establish a safe and comfortable environment for students, including guidelines and consequences for behavior that are reasonable and appropriate for the setting. </li><li>Develop a thorough knowledge of the course(s) of study and implement them in the classroom and/or laboratory, using a variety of instructional methods and materials. </li><li>Prepare clear and timely lesson plans, as specified by the Principal that demonstrate knowledge of the course of study and contain sound teaching and assessment methods. </li><li>Schedule instructional time according to district and building guidelines. </li><li>Make effective use of resources, materials and equipment and care for them in a responsible manner. </li><li>Participate actively on a team and/or in a department. </li><li>Keep accurate and detailed records, according to district and building rules. Record keeping requirements may vary with teaching assignments. </li><li>Prepare adequately for substitute teachers. </li><li>Observe the adopted daily building schedule, including starting and ending times for teachers and students, and perform all assigned duties; for example, study halls, cafeteria, bus, hallway, field trips, emergency drills. </li><li>Attend all staff meetings, unless excused. </li><li>Serve on committees and participate in school activities and after-school programs and events, in a professionally responsible manner. </li><li>Report to parents, in writing and at conferences, at the intervals established by the district and/or building. </li><li>Communicate with parents on an ongoing basis, in a positive manner. </li><li>Work cooperatively with peers, administrators and support staff. </li><li>Make appropriate referrals of students for supplemental help; attend planning meetings as assigned, and implement individual plans. </li><li>Communicate with agencies, authorities and private practitioners, according to confidentiality guidelines and other district procedures. </li><li>Engage in continuous professional growth, including attending training sessions as assigned. Complete a professional development plan according to procedures adopted by the school district. </li><li>Learn and implement the administrative procedures that are associated with the teaching assignment; for example, managing an activity account, applying for a field trip. </li><li>Use sound judgment, tact and diplomacy when interacting with students, parents and the community, and maintain the confidentiality of information that is not public domain. </li><li>Serve as a role model in the practice of ethical principles, responsible behavior and democratic values. </li></ul> <p>OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <ul> <li>Become appropriately trained in the use and proper maintenance of laboratory apparatus and substances associated with the subject(s) taught. </li><li>Assist in the selection of textbooks, equipment and teaching materials. </li><li>Work with student teachers if needed. </li><li>Maintain an appropriate personal appearance. </li><li>Observe all safety and health regulations of the school district. </li><li>Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal, the Superintendent or his/her designee. </li></ul> <p>QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. </li><li>Appropriate State of Ohio teaching certificate/license. </li><li>Integrated license preferred. </li><li>Alternative to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Board of Education may find appropriate. </li></ul> <p>REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:</p> <ul> <li>Knowledge of the appropriate subject(s) or specialty areas. May be required to teach more than one subject and laboratory. </li><li>Knowledge of a variety of instructional designs, methods and materials that are developmentally appropriate and age appropriate for the students. </li><li>Knowledge of the characteristics of the assigned student population and the desire and ability to work effectively with them. </li><li>Ability to work effectively with other adults in many different situations, including teams. </li><li>Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing. </li><li>Effective, active listening skills. </li><li>Well developed organizational and problem solving skills. </li><li>Basic knowledge of computer technology or willingness to acquire and appropriately apply such knowledge. </li></ul> <p>EQUIPMENT OPERATED:</p> <ul> <li>Various office machines and instructional equipment; for example, calculators, copiers, laminating machines, VCR's, DVD players, slide projectors. </li><li>Computer/printer. </li><li>Laboratory apparatus and substances. These will vary with teaching assignments and advancements in technology. Examples are as follows: </li></ul> <p>a. bunsen burner k. tesla coil</p> <p>b. hotplate l. induction coil</p> <p>c. drying oven m. optical bench</p> <p>d. beakers and test tubes n. ripple tank</p> <p>e. dissection equipment o. U.V. lamp</p> <p>f. autoclave p. magnifying glass</p> <p>g. microscope q. bacteria cultures</p> <p>h. microscope r. chemicals</p> <p>i. Van de Graff generator</p> <p>j. vacuum pump</p> <p>WORKING CONDITIONS:</p> <ul> <li>Potential exposure to blood or other bodily fluids and tissue. </li><li>Some exposure to chemical, electrical, heat and/or biological hazards. </li><li>Possible exposure to dangerous tools and equipment. </li><li>Occasional operation of a vehicle in inclement weather; that is, being prepared to come to school on all scheduled work days except calamity days. </li><li>Possible interaction with unruly students. </li><li>Possible interaction with angry or distraught adults. </li><li>Must be available for education related purposes outside the instructional day when requested to do so under reasonable terms. </li><li>Regular requirement to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, see, read, reach, stretch with hands and arms, stoop, crouch and kneel. </li><li>Occasional requirement to handle, lift, carry, push and pull the equipment and supplies associated with the teaching assignment. </li></ul> <p>NOTE: The above lists may not be ranked in order of importance.</p> <p>ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:</p> <p>Please submit a letter of interest and resume to the online application.
