<p>Job Responsibilities</p> <p>If your goal is to build a career that makes a difference and you have a passion for making a difference in the lives of South Carolina's youth, consider joining the dedicated people of the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ).</p> <p>MISSION:</p> <p>It is the mission of the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) to impact and transform young lives, strengthen families, and support safer communities through targeted prevention and rehabilitation.</p> <p>JOB PURPOSE:</p> <p>Under limited supervision, coordinates, implements and manages services of the comprehensive guidance and counseling program. Collaborates with other DJJ care providers, School-to-Work programs, Vocational Rehabilitation, community educational institutions, agencies, and organizations and parent/guardians to provide a continuum of services for juveniles.</p> <p>JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <p>Assists all students, individually or in groups, by providing guidance activities and career awareness programs that combine counseling on career options and experiential learning, and personal and social skills, with academic planning to assist students in fulfilling their individual graduation plans.</p> <p>Plans, develops and implements the comprehensive school guidance and counseling program to support the personal, social, educational and career development of the students.</p> <p>Adheres to laws, policies, procedures, and ethical standards of the school counseling profession.</p> <p>Communicates, consults and collaborates effectively with various groups and individuals concerning educational and community resources regarding students.</p> <p>Assist with testing and appropriately interprets and utilizes student data.</p> <p>Performs other related job duties as assigned.</p> <p>Minimum and Additional Requirements</p> <p>STATE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:</p> <p>A master's degree in guidance and experience in education. Certified as a Guidance Counselor by the State Department of Education.</p> <p>ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:</p> <p>Knowledge of the Education Economic Development Act, career and academic educational counseling, planning, placement, employability skills instruction, IGPs and career clusters.</p> <p>Knowledge of secondary and post-secondary educational systems.</p> <p>Knowledge of agencies, organization and community resources that provide services to youth and families.</p> <p>Excellent communication skills.</p> <p>Ability to establish rapport and effective working relationships with at-risk youth and their parents, other DJJ staff and community partners.</p> <p>Limited overnight travel.</p> <p>This position performs job duties relating to the custody, control, transportation, or recapture of youth within the jurisdiction of the Department of Juvenile Justice, and the employee may have direct and indirect contact with youth within the jurisdiction of the Department of Juvenile Justice.
