<p>Landscape Preservationist</p> <p>ID: NPSFRLA-002-001 Location: Brookline Program: NPS</p> <p>Wage/Hr: $70.00 Hours/Week: 12 Minimum Age: 55</p> <p>For over 25 years, National Experienced Workforce Solutions (NEW Solutions) has specialized in connecting experienced workers (ages 55+) with full-time and part-time job opportunities that support the critical missions of Federal Agencies across the United States.</p> <p>NEW Solutions connects experienced workers (ages 55+) with the National Park Service (NPS). These experienced professionals provide administrative expertise, facilities management, natural and cultural resource planning, and a broad array of other professional skills that support the National Park Service through the Experienced Services Program (ESP).</p> <p>Positions listed here do not guarantee employment for any definite period. Enrollment in the Experienced Worker Programs administered by NEW Solutions is temporary. The enrollment relationship between NEW Solutions and the Enrollee is an ?at-will? relationship. This means that an Enrollee is free to terminate enrollment at any time during the enrollment period, and NEW Solutions and the Agency have the right to terminate the relationship with the Enrollee.</p> <p>PLEASE NOTE: An ?Enrollee? is not a federal employee, nor an employee of NEW Solutions. An ?Enrollee? is a participant in a grant program established through a Cooperative Agreement funded by the agency and administered by NEW Solutions.</p> <p>This opportunity applies to applicants legally eligible to work in the United States.</p> <p>Qualifications:</p> <p>Minimum of 10 year(s) of experience in historic preservation landscape design and project management. OR BA/BS Degree in historic preservation, landscape horticulture</p> <p>Professional knowledge of the theories, principles, practices, and techniques of landscape architecture and historic preservation, particularly as they apply to the preservation of cultural landscapes. Knowledge is acquired through education and experience. Knowledge of basic horticultural principles and practices, including identification and condition assessment of woody plant material. Knowledge of federal cultural resources preservation legislation, policies, guidelines, and standards, particularly the National Historic Preservation Act and the Secretary's Standards and Guidelines for Archeology and Historic Preservation, and NPS Management Policies, guidelines, and standards. Ability to interpret and apply current laws, policies, guidelines, standards, and technical information to formulate agency positions, conduct project reviews, and provide technical assistance and information regarding cultural landscape management. Basic knowledge of program management and administration of budgets, contracts, and personnel. Ability to conduct NHPS Section 106, Section 110, and Section 4F compliance procedures and participate in conflict resolution. Ability to perform historical research, conduct field investigations, analyze data, and prepare reports, plans, specifications, and cost estimates to support planning for cultural landscape preservation. Knowledge of related resources management disciplines, such as history, architecture, archeology, ethnography, horticulture, and the natural sciences to ensure their proper consideration in research, planning, and treatment. Ability to organize and coordinate complex projects involving professionals from several disciplines, including both NPS staff and consultants from outside the agency. Experience required with Windows, MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint PMIS (Project Management Information System) Duties:</p> <p>The enrollee serves as a specialist for one or more parks in the landscape architecture profession with advanced training in the principles, theories, concepts, methods, and techniques of preserving cultural landscapes. Cultural landscape preservation focuses on preserving a landscape's physical attributes, biotic systems, and use when that use contributes to its historical significance.</p> <p>Responsible for the identification, research, planning, treatment, and preservation maintenance of cultural landscapes. Performs landscape architectural duties associated with review, design, treatment, and monitoring of cultural landscapes. 20% Identifies research needs and suitable research designs and conducts or oversees various levels of documentary research and field investigation. 20% Conducts and coordinates cultural landscape research projects related to the identification, documentation, analysis and evaluation, and treatment; conducts research involving historical documents, photographs, maps and drawings, and related items to develop knowledge of and data about specific cultural landscapes, such as period design concepts, land use patterns, cultural traditions, and historic plant materials. 20% Prepares or oversees preparation of scopes of work that clearly define the objectives and requirements of the project for A/E design or documentation services. 20% Develops work plans and schedules, scopes of work, cost estimates, and (PMIS) proposals and/or grant applications to justify funding requests and accomplish goals. May administer and track project funds and prepare accomplishment reports, as needed. Maintains awareness of applicable funding sources within NPS and outside. 20%</p> <p>Other: Health and Safety Considerations: Work includes activities that will require PPE and complying with standard operating procedures put into place to protect staff (i.e. Job Hazard Analyses). Incumbent will be trained in these SOPs and JHAs as well as proper PPE use. Required Safety Gear: Use of cutting tools requires gloves, ear & eye protection. Physical requirements: Ability to walk on uneven ground and remain out of doors for extended periods of time.
