<p>Job Summary:</p> <p>Academic Technology within the Division of Information Technology (DoIT) seeks a software developer to join our team and make a significant impact on the university's academic environment. Bring your expertise and curiosity and help us develop rich experiences for learners, advisors, instructors and other members of our academic community.</p> <p>DoIT provides core IT infrastructure services to the university, develops and implements services for the university and in some cases, for the Universities of Wisconsin, plays a major role in managing the state-wide higher education network and regional networks.</p> <p>The Academic Technology department advances the University of Wisconsin-Madison's mission and strategic priorities as well as the Wisconsin Idea by providing innovative and sustainable services that support teaching and learning research throughout the university community. Academic Technology services include software development, project management, digital accessibility & user experience, learning analytics, training, pre-college programs, and support for the suite of learning technologies that facilitate teaching and learning.</p> <p>The Software Developer will assume a role in the development and enhancement of web-based applications including database development in support of academic applications on campus. The emphasis for this position is on developing and implementing rich user experiences for learners, advisors, instructors, and other members of the academic community. This position works with other DoIT staff to take advantage of centralized applications and integration tools when implementing these applications.</p> <p>Typical duties of this position include performing challenging programming activities and troubleshooting/debugging production systems. In collaboration with other team members, this position will meet with stakeholders and other campus partners to define and develop appropriate solutions in support of business cases and to provide technical expertise for the development of new systems and for the maintenance and support of existing systems.</p> <p>Responsibilities:</p> <p>Designs, develops, tests, debugs, operates, and troubleshoots software and applications to support information technology business operations.</p> <ul> <li>30% Reviews application design specifications, codes new applications, and makes enhancements to existing applications </li><li>20% Tests and debugs programs, and prepares systems test data </li><li>10% Prepares program documentation and training requirements </li><li>5% Develops or modifies technical specifications for moderately-complex projects using disciplined software development practices </li><li>5% Prepares detailed system design specifications for system integration and upgrades </li><li>15% Maintains and troubleshoots applications, systems, or websites </li><li>5% Implements data structure and systems performance strategies </li><li>10% Actively participates in team and operational support responsibilities, including development workflows, release planning, and live support </li></ul> <p>Institutional Statement on Diversity:</p> <p>Diversity is a source of strength, creativity, and innovation for UW-Madison. We commit ourselves to the pursuit of excellence in teaching, research, outreach, and diversity as inextricably linked goals.</p> <p>The University of Wisconsin-Madison fulfills its public mission by creating a welcoming and inclusive community for people from every background - people who as students, faculty, and staff serve Wisconsin and the world.</p> <p>For more information on diversity and inclusion on campus, please visit: Diversity and Inclusion</p> <p>Education:</p> <p>Preferred</p> <p>Associate's Degree</p> <p>Qualifications:</p> <p>Required qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Demonstrated experience with web-based user interface implementation practices, particularly utilizing Javascript/CSS, UI/UX frameworks such as Angular, React. </li><li>Demonstrated web development experience, including dynamic creation of HTML, use of web forms, CSS, Javascript, and REST APIs. </li><li>Demonstrated relational database experience including SQL development and entity-relationship diagrams; specific examples that would apply include Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL or PostgreSQL. </li><li>Demonstrated experience with object-oriented and/or functional programming techniques, particularly utilizing Java and Spring Boot. </li><li>Demonstrated experience with team-oriented software development, quality assurance processes and version control. </li></ul> <p>In addition to required qualifications, the most qualified candidates may also have the following</p> <p>preferred qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Experience developing software using Agile methodologies. </li><li>Experience with enterprise web services development, api gateways, and message driven systems. </li><li>Experience with container/cloud-based development and continuous integration/deployment (CI/CD) using requisite sysadmin skills. </li><li>Experience building user interfaces based on design specifications from Figma or similar tools, including accessibility and usability factors. </li><li>Experience with higher education application systems, instructional technology, research applications, academic portals or the like. </li></ul> <p>Work Type:</p> <p>Full Time: 100%</p> <p>This position is eligible for any of the following: 100% remote work; partial remote work; or fully on-site. Remote work requires an approved remote work agreement (RWA) agreement, which is reviewed and approved annually. An RWA requires successful candidates to possess their own high-speed internet and phone to perform the work on a university provided computer. Per University policy, transportation between home and assigned work location is not payable/reimbursable and will be at the expense of the employee.</p> <p>Appointment Type, Duration:</p> <p>Ongoing/Renewable</p> <p>Salary:</p> <p>Minimum $80,000 ANNUAL (12 months)</p> <p>Depending on Qualifications</p> <p>Starting salary will be based on experience and qualifications.
