<p>This is responsible supervisory, technical and administrative work directing repair, maintenance, modification, overhaul, reconditioning, and servicing of gasoline and diesel-powered service vehicles. The position supervises chief mechanics, journeyman equipment mechanics, and other skilled and semi-skilled employees. Work also includes field inspections to determine abuse or improper use of equipment, revising and monitoring preventive maintenance and overhaul schedules and the preparation and maintenance of repair and cost records. An employee in this class participates in the selection, placement, promotion, safety, training, appraisal and discipline of assigned employees. Work requires the exercise of considerable independent judgment and initiative in carrying out assignments.</p> <p>Salary: $29.68 - $47.32 Hourly</p> <p>Close Date: 12-29-2025 (11:59 PM)</p> <p>To Qualify</p> <p>Minimum Qualifications. Applicants must:</p> <ul> <li>Have a high school diploma or GED equivalency. </li><li>Possess and maintain a valid Driver License. </li><li>Acknowledge this position may require a State of Florida Class "A" Commercial Driver License with air brakes and selected applicants may be required to obtain the license through the City's formal training program. </li><li>Have supplemental, special training in automotive equipment repair. </li><li>Have at least six (6) years of professional experience in the maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment. </li><li>Have at least two (2) years of professional supervisory experience. </li><li>Be able to identify mechanical problems, determine causes, and recommend corrective procedures or preventative maintenance requirements. </li><li>Be able to accurately maintain records, prepare reports and perform basic mathematical calculations. </li><li>Be proficient in the use of a personal computer to enter and retrieve data and to prepare documents. </li><li>Be able to communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing. </li><li>Acknowledge this position is designated as Emergency Critical (EC) and if hired into the position, you must immediately be available to the department before, during, and after a declared emergency and/or disaster. </li></ul> <p>Desirable Qualifications. Preferred applicants:</p> <ul> <li>Have thorough knowledge of the operations, repair and preventative maintenance requirements of internal combustion gasoline and diesel engines and drive train and chassis parts on powered equipment. </li><li>Have considerable knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions required of the work. </li><li>Are skilled in designing effective programs to meet departmental safety and training needs. </li><li>Are able to plan, organize, schedule, establish standards, prioritize and supervise the work of a staff of mechanics, forepersons, and others, as assigned. </li><li>Are skilled in the use of Microsoft Office suite applications including Word, Excel, and Outlook. </li><li>Have experience using Asset Works M5 Operations software. </li></ul> <p>Selection Process</p> <p>IMPORTANT APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS</p> <p>For purposes of employment, re-employment, promotion, transfer or demotion, the most qualified applicants will be selected to continue in the hiring process.
