<p>Summary of the Position</p> <p>The Reading Public Schools is seeking to hire a METCO Site Coordinator/School Adjustment Counselor. The METCO Site Coordinator/School Adjustment Counselor will:</p> <ul> <li>Support the social-emotional and behavioral development of all students in the school </li><li>Promote the METCO vision for family, community, and student engagement within the Reading Public Schools and in both the Reading and Boston communities </li><li>Advance the district vision for breaking down stereotypes by building genuine relationships between all students, families and staff </li></ul> <p>Job Responsibilities: The essential functions or duties listed below are illustrations of the type of work that is performed and is not an exhaustive list of the duties performed by this position. Other duties may be assigned.</p> <ul> <li>Provide short term (6-8 weeks) solution focused school counseling to Boston and Reading resident students in the general education population who have been referred through SST process or SAC referral process. </li><li>Provide short term (6-8 weeks) group counseling to Boston and Reading resident students in the general education setting on topics generated by collaboration with grade level teams (friendships, social skills, self-care, anxiety management, etc.) </li><li>As a member of the building leadership team, work collaboratively with the building principal to create and sustain a supportive and affirming school culture and community for all students, particularly those who have been traditionally marginalized. </li><li>Foster racial/cultural awareness and build authentic relationships that allow for cross-cultural understanding and appreciation for each other. This could include developing METCO social events and partnering with school PTO. </li><li>Develop and/or collaborate on school initiatives around monthly heritage/cultural celebrations. </li><li>Arrange/implement support services for Boston and Reading resident students who have difficulties adjusting to school or other school related concerns. </li><li>Provide consultation, coaching and modeling for teachers, paraprofessionals, administration and nurse around school and classroom climate strategies that support social emotional development. </li><li>Use knowledge of culturally proficient practices to appropriately serve as a liaison between the school, student, families and external agencies. </li><li>Act as a case manager for students, coordinate referrals to external agencies and programs in collaboration with school psychologists. </li><li>Prepare and maintain all appropriate documentation and records. </li><li>Support individual and whole school crisis intervention in collaboration with the RPS Crisis Team. </li><li>Attend meetings for Boston resident parents in Boston and Reading to share relevant data and build partnerships. </li><li>Attend parent leadership organization, community, and neighborhood meetings in both Boston and Reading to develop a deep understanding of stakeholder needs and concerns, build partnerships and trust. </li><li>Actively participate in the METCO leadership team, including regular meetings led by the METCO coordinator. </li></ul> <p>Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Valid Massachusetts DESE Social Worker/School Adjustment Counselor certification </li><li>Masters Degree in counseling social work, or related degree </li><li>3+ years of related experience preferred or an equivalent combination of education and experience </li><li>Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) preferred </li></ul> <p>Reports to:</p> <p>The METCO Site Coordinator/School Adjustment Counselor will be supervised by the building principal. Additionally, this position will meet regularly with the METCO director, who will contribute to the evaluation.</p> <p>Compensation:</p> <p>Commensurate with experience and education as defined by the Reading Teachers Association contract.</p> <p>What is METCO and what does it mean to be a METCO district?</p> <p>The Metropolitan Council for Educational Opportunity, Inc.
