Must be available to work additional hours as needed.</p> <p>Who May Apply?</p> <p>All persons legally authorized to work in the United States</p> <p>Responsibilities</p> <p>Utility Technicians are responsible for the construction, maintenance and operations of the City's gas distribution system.</p> <ul> <li>Use small hand tools, tapping, and stopple equipment. </li><li>Perform semi-skilled and common labor work such as paint and/or wrap pipe, cutting and threading pipe, pipe-fitting and assist in other pipeline maintenance as required. </li><li>Operate backhoe, trenching machine, and other semi-heavy maintenance and construction equipment. </li><li>Inspect equipment and make adjustments and minor repairs to maintain equipment in proper operating condition. </li><li>Perform the planning and supervision of work crew. </li><li>Review and monitor work progress of crew ensuring work is being conducted in accordance with company procedures. </li><li>Serves as primary welder involved in the construction and maintenance of gas distribution facilities by performing pipe pitting and welding. </li><li>Performs leak surveys using leak detection equipment such as combustible gas indicator (CGI) or (GMI) and RMLD. </li><li>Completes proper forms, log books and documentation on maps. </li><li>Investigates gas odor complaints. </li><li>Utilizes gas leak detection equipment in order to locate and pinpoint gas leaks. </li><li>Evaluate severity of leaks and make recommendations to the General Foreman for repair priority. </li><li>Perform electric arc and oxy-acetylene welding to cut and fit pipe ranging from ½" to 12" in diameter. </li><li>Weld stopple fittings on gas mains and operate stopple equipment to make hot taps and/or valve off sections of pipe. </li><li>Perform clerical tasks such as completing required forms used to document inspections from work orders in accordance with Department procedures and/or regulatory requirements. </li><li>Operate a 1 ton truck, 2 ½ ton crew truck, winch truck, dump truck, pickup truck, pole and float trailers, ditchers, air compressors, welding machine and equipment. </li><li>Perform plastic pipe fusion with the use of poly fusion and electro fusion equipment and operates line locating equipment and volt meters for taking pipe-to-soil potentials. </li><li>Perform intensive manual labor tasks including digging and backfilling ditches, installing pipe and shoveling. </li><li>Install or repairs mains, services, and meter loops. </li><li>Remove and/or exchange gas meters as part of maintenance work tasks. </li><li>Check for stopped meters and houseline pressures using water manometer. </li><li>May be asked to perform other duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Requires High School Diploma or GED </li><li>Minimum of five (5) years of related experience </li><li>Certified as a competent welder by the Gas Department in both oxy-acetylene and electric arc welding or must be certified within six (6) months </li><li>Certified to fuse poly pipe or must be certified within six (6) months of hire </li><li>Must be able to shovel up to 15 pounds of weight, stand/walk up to 5 hours at a time, continuous bending, stooping and climbing. </li><li>Valid Texas Class A CDL with Air Brake endorsement required </li><li>Successful out of state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas Class A CDL within 90 days of hire </li></ul> <p>Other Information:</p> <p>Benefits</p> <p>The City offers an excellent benefit package that includes:</p> <ul> <li>Texas Municipal Retirement System - the City offers a 2 to 1 match.
