<p>GENERAL SUMMARY</p> <p>The part-time (flexible hours) Professional Science Tutor will be responsible for facilitating and supporting student learning in health science courses by helping to clarify specific course content, reinforcing the use of appropriate study strategies, and modeling problem-solving skills.</p> <p>ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS*</p> <p>Duties and responsibilities include the following:</p> <ul> <li>Assist students in the review of subject areas, in conjunction with course schedules, for health science courses, including Anatomy & Physiology, Microbiology, and Biology (Introductory and Human-based). </li><li>Tutoring sessions are expected to be provided through the following formats </li><li>General questions and answers </li><li>Other forms of practical application (case studies, group discussion) </li><li>All course materials necessary for the provision of tutoring services will be provided by the program supervisor </li><li>Prepare for support sessions (online and on campus) as necessary to meet student needs, working with the program supervisor and faculty. </li><li>Evaluate student progress after each session and collaborate with the program supervisor and faculty as needed </li><li>Inform and/or consult with the program supervisor if problems are encountered or the need arises for assistance relating to a specific tutoring situation. </li><li>Work collaboratively with the program supervisor to build a cohesive support program and to respond in a professional manner to diverse student needs. </li><li>Maintain records of hours, students' names, course/cohorts, times of meetings, and brief summaries of the meeting. </li><li>Respect students' rights to confidentiality and follow legal guidelines regarding the dispersal of information. </li><li>Assist in maintaining a disturbance-free environment that is conducive to learning. </li><li>Monitor student activities while conducting support sessions for the purpose of maintaining a safe environment that is conducive to learning. </li><li>Provide a general knowledge of all college services. Must be able to refer students to the correct college resource or department. </li><li>Assume responsibility for being familiar with and adhering to all policies of the College. </li><li>Treat others respectfully, speak to others courteously, and behave in such a way that creates a workplace environment that is marked by trustworthiness, honest but polite communication, and interpersonal interactions that are both personally cordial and professionally appropriate. </li><li>Model an understanding of and commitment to the comprehensive community college philosophy and mission. </li></ul> <p>OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES</p> <p>Other duties as assigned.</p> <p>PREPARATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES</p> <p>Required Qualifications:</p> <p>Bachelor's degree or higher (Master's degree preferred) in a science discipline (Biology, Chemistry, and other relevant health science fields)</p> <p>Prior experience teaching science courses at the college level</p> <p>Ability to provide tutoring services remotely via Zoom and/or on campus.</p> <p>Comfort with technology and online learning within a learning management system and using video conferencing as a learning tool (i.e., Zoom)</p> <p>Understand and be committed to the unique nature and role of the college.</p> <p>Weekend hours may be required during peak exam periods</p> <p>Preferred Qualifications:</p> <p>Multilingual</p> <p>Prior experience providing tutoring for science courses</p> <p>Have a passion for and interest in supporting pre-health/nursing students</p> <p>SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY</p> <p>None</p> <p>WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS</p> <p>Sitting most of the time</p>
