<p>JOB POSTING</p> <p>Building Department</p> <p>Wiring Inspector</p> <p>Non-Union - Non-Benefited</p> <p>Part Time: Up to 15 hours per week</p> <p>Hourly Rate: $28.00 - $30.00</p> <p>General Description:</p> <p>Responsible for inspecting new and old electrical light, heat, cooling, and power installations, and for enforcing conformity with municipal ordinances and state laws and regulations relating to their installation, maintenance, alteration, repair and removal. Although new or unusual problems may be referred to the building commissioner for advice and assistance, work is ordinarily performed independently in the field, and decisions made require considerable technical discretion and judgment. Correction of non-compliant wiring work shall be accomplished chiefly through education and persuasion directed at the party responsible for the work, but court action may be initiated when necessary to enforce compliance. Work is reviewed through oral and written reports. No supervision is exercised over other employees.</p> <p>Main Job Tasks and Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Reviews permit applications, plans, and specifications for the installation, alteration, or repair of commercial and domestic electrical wiring for compliance with permitting and code requirements. Issues permits to all qualified individuals including owner-occupants of single-family dwellings. </li><li>Conducts inspections of all work as needed during installation and upon completion to ensure compliance with electrical code requirements, workmanship, and conformity with approved plans. </li><li>Coordinates and schedules all inspection requests independently, and respond to all inspection requests that are received by either email or phone. Records the outcome of all inspections. </li><li>Investigates complaints regarding unpermitted electrical work and hazardous electrical wiring-related conditions. </li><li>Inspects electrical systems damaged by fire or water, determines which parts of the systems, if any, may be safely energized, and provides direction on requirements to fully restore damaged portions. </li><li>Issues verbal or written orders for the correction of code violations, electrical hazards, and defects in material or workmanship, and follows up to ensure compliance. Prepares reports as needed describing conditions found, action taken, and recommendations for future action. Obtains show-cause order when necessary from Clerk of Courts, and appears in court to enforce compliance and to testify in accident and damage suits. </li><li>Performs related work as required. </li></ul> <p>Education and Experience</p> <p>A High School diploma or equivalent is required and must be supplemented by courses in electrical engineering and/or related fields, plus two years of experience in electrical installation work at the journeyman or supervisory level. A Journeyman and/or Master Electricians License is required.</p> <p>Requires thorough knowledge of municipal bylaws and state laws and regulations related to electrical installations; thorough knowledge of the materials, methods and techniques used in electrical installations; the ability to recognize and diagnose faulty wiring or conditions that present a potential risk of fire, explosion, or electrocution; ability to read and interpret rough and finished electrical installation construction plans and specification and to recognize deviations from such plans in the construction and installation process; ability to express oneself clearly and concisely both orally and in writing; ability to enforce regulations firmly, tactfully and impartially; and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with electricians, property owners, business owners, homeowners, contractors, architects, engineers, and representatives of other state and municipal departments.</p> <p>Must be proficient in the use of computers, printers, copiers, scanners, phones and Microsoft Office products.
