Reporting to the Superintendent of Schools, the Director serves as the district's senior leader for special education and student support services, functioning as both a strategic administrator and an active practitioner.</p> <p>The Director of PPS is the district's primary authority on special education and pupil personnel services and is responsible for ensuring compliance with IDEA, Article 89 of New York State Education Law, and Part 200 Regulations.</p> <p>Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li> <p>Serve as Lead Chairperson of the CSE and CPSE; oversee evaluations, IEP development and implementation, timelines, procedural safeguards, and due process; ensure compliance with IDEA, Article 89, and Part 200 Regulations.</p> </li><li> <p>Serve as the district's Section 504 Coordinator; oversee identification, accommodations, annual reviews, and staff guidance.</p> </li><li> <p>Supervise and evaluate special education and pupil personnel staff (related service providers, psychologists, social workers); provide instructional leadership, consultation, and professional development.</p> </li><li> <p>Serve as the primary point of contact for families; support parent participation in CSE/CPSE processes; address concerns proactively and collaboratively.</p> </li><li> <p>Recommend and coordinate in-district and out-of-district placements; monitor student progress and fiscal responsibility; support long-range program planning.</p> </li><li> <p>Oversee attendance monitoring, chronic absenteeism interventions, home instruction services, and residency determinations, as required.</p> </li><li> <p>Coordinate SEL initiatives, student mental health supports, crisis response, threat assessment, and partnerships with community agencies.</p> </li><li> <p>Maintain required records and reports; prepare submissions for NYSED, the Superintendent, and the Board of Education; participate in PPS and special education budget development.</p> </li><li> <p>Serve on the district administrative leadership team; assist in developing and implementing Board policies; remain current on applicable laws and regulations.</p> </li><li> <p>Oversee districtwide compliance with the Dignity for All Students Act (DASA); support building-level coordinators; monitor reporting and intervention processes.</p> </li></ul> <p>Required Qualifications & Certifications</p> <ul> <li> <p>New York State certification as School District Leader (SDL) or School District Administrator (SDA)</p> </li><li> <p>NYS certification in Special Education, School Psychology, School Social Work, or School Counseling</p> </li><li> <p>Master's degree required; Doctorate preferred</p> </li><li> <p>Minimum of five (5) years of experience in special education and/or pupil personnel services</p> </li><li> <p>Demonstrated experience chairing CSE meetings and ensuring regulatory compliance</p> </li><li> <p>Strong communication, leadership, and collaborative problem-solving skills</p> </li></ul> <p>Desired Characteristics & Qualifications</p> <ul> <li> <p>Experience in a small school district</p> </li><li> <p>Extensive experience chairing CSE and CPSE meetings</p> </li><li> <p>Experience managing out-of-district placements and related budgets</p> </li><li> <p>Demonstrated commitment to inclusive practices and student-centered decision-making</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to balance professionalism with compassionate, case-by-case decision-making while maintaining fiscal responsibility</p> </li></ul> <p>APPLICATIONS WILL BE REVIEWED ON A ROLLING BASIS</p>
