<p>Job Description:</p> <p>GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: The Assistant Dean for Student Engagement serves as a key leader within the Division of Student Affairs and provides visionary direction for the Office of Student Engagement and Campus Center. This position is responsible for fostering a vibrant, inclusive, and engaging student experience through co-curricular and extra-curricular initiatives for all student populations including undergraduate, graduate, residential students, commuter students, online students, and adult learners.</p> <p>The Assistant Dean directs a comprehensive student engagement program that supports student growth and development and enhances the social, academic, and cultural dimensions of campus life. This position provides oversight for student activities, leadership development, student organizations, orientation programs, and the management of the Hammond Campus Center. In addition, the Assistant Dean serves as a leader within the Division of Student Affairs, supporting the Dean in strategic initiatives and representing the Division in the Dean's absence.</p> <p>SUPERVISION RECEIVED: This position reports directly to the Dean of Students.</p> <p>SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Supervise professional, administrative staff, and student employees assigned to the Office of Student Engagement and Campus Center.</p> <p>DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <ul> <li>Lead the Office of Student Engagement and Campus Center in developing and executing a dynamic portfolio of programs, services, and initiatives that promote student involvement, community building, and leadership development. </li><li>Collaborate across university departments to ensure that student engagement efforts are coordinated, inclusive, and aligned with institutional goals. </li><li>Design and implement engagement strategies specifically tailored to meet the needs of specialized populations, including commuter students, adult learners, and graduate students. </li><li>Supervise and lead oversight of student clubs and organizations, including recognition, compliance, training, and support for student leaders and faculty/staff advisors. </li><li>Advise the Student Government Association and oversee the allocation and management of student activity fee funds in accordance with university policy, with a focus on equity and fiscal responsibility. </li><li>Supervise the planning and operations of the Hammond Campus Center, ensuring it serves as a vibrant hub of student life. </li><li>Provide strategic direction and programmatic oversight for orientation initiatives, including Family and Friends Orientation, online onboarding programs, and Transfer Orientation; co-chair the university-wide Orientation Committee. </li><li>Develop and implement leadership development programs that emphasize skill-building, self-awareness, and career readiness. </li><li>Oversee and support fraternities, sororities, and Greek Council, ensuring compliance with university and national policies and promoting healthy organizational development. </li><li>Manage WXPL student radio operations, including budgeting, licensing, and compliance. </li><li>Monitor departmental goals, outcomes, budgets, and assessment metrics; contribute to annual reports and periodic reviews in accordance with university standards and CAS guidelines. </li><li>Serve as a trained student conduct officer, participating in hearings and student conduct processes as needed. </li><li>Actively participate in the University CARE Team (middle circle), responding to student needs, sharing information responsibly, and contributing to case management processes. </li><li>Serve on the Dean's Leadership Team; act as the Dean's delegate when needed and represent the Division of Student Affairs on university committees and initiatives. </li><li>Provide rotation coverage for evening and weekend events, ensuring consistent support for student programming. </li><li>Perform additional duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Requirements:</p> <p>QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <ul> <li>5+ years of progressively responsible experience in student engagement or related area. </li><li>Knowledge of higher education principles, practices, and procedures required. </li><li>A strong attention to detail. </li><li>Highly developed skills and experience with planning, coordinating, and facilitating projects/programs. </li><li>Demonstrated leadership with the ability to manage and support professional staff, graduate assistants, student staff, and student leaders. </li><li>Significant experience in student engagement/activities including clubs and organizations, student government, and Greek Life. </li><li>Ability to collaborate with academic departments and university partners required. </li><li>Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing required. </li><li>Ability to work effectively with professional, classified, and student personnel required. </li><li>Ability to work effectively with a wide variety of students required. </li><li>Knowledge of the tenets of diversity, equity, and inclusion work and social justice education and the ability to appropriately and effectively understand and adapt to cultural differences within a group environment. </li><li>Familiarity with FERPA regulations and matters of confidentiality. </li><li>Experience with budget planning and management. </li><li>Ability to perform above duties with or without reasonable accommodation. </li><li>Satisfactorily pass a Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI check), Sexual Offender Registry Information and background check satisfactory to the university. </li></ul> <p>PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <p>Bachelor's degree (Master's strongly preferred)</p> <p>Additional Information:</p> <p>This is a full-time, benefited, exempt, professional APA position.
