<p>Position Type:</p> <p>Administration (Educator)/Coordinator</p> <p>Date Posted:</p> <p>12/12/2025</p> <p>Location:</p> <p>Monroe County Board of Education</p> <p>Date Available:</p> <p>immediately upon hire</p> <p>Closing Date:</p> <p>12/18/2025</p> <p>County:</p> <p>  Monroe County Schools  Additional Information: Show/Hide</p> <p>NOTICE OF VACANCY-SERVICE PERSONNEL</p> <p>Position Title:</p> <ul> <li>Transportation and Maintenance Coordinator </li></ul> <p>Job Description for Transportation:</p> <ul> <li>Schedule and ensure instruction is provided in pre-service, first aid, in-service and other appropriate training for bus operators and mechanics as is recommended and/or required by law. </li><li>Direct and evaluate bus routes for most safe and efficient transporting of students. Yearly evaluate and revise routes according to changing needs of students. </li><li>Supervise maintenance of buses. </li><li>Fill bus runs for driver vacancies. </li><li>Assist in writing specifications, bidding and analyzing bids for new buses; recommend types of buses to be purchased to meet needs. Assign buses based on student needs. Develop and maintain cost-effective inventory of necessary parts. </li><li>Investigate all accidents and make proper reports. </li><li>Possess a thorough knowledge of laws and regulations concerning school buses, and keep abreast of any changes. Establish a network of communication with drivers to inform them of changes and provide staff development as needed as well as opportunities to improve skills and work with regional and state competitions for bus drivers. </li><li>Arrange extracurricular bus transportation when needed. </li><li>Assist the superintendent in decision-making concerning the closing or early dismissal of schools due to inclement weather. (Involves checking road conditions in the early morning hours). </li><li>Provide leadership and support to all personnel, students, and schools in area of responsibility. </li><li>Establish and implement a continuous improvement process for transportation system and bus operator effectiveness and safety. </li><li>Maintain professional work habits, including networking with area transportation directors to improve skills, to improve efficiency of the system, and to coordinate efforts on a regional basis for improvement. </li><li>Work with the superintendent to develop and administer appropriate evaluation models. Advise the superintendent of any and all concerns relating to bus operator safety and effectiveness. </li><li>Establish good public and employee relations including fairness and consistency in dealing with decisions related to bus operators, providing leadership for working with the public and maintaining a good relationship with parents and the community as well as agencies and departments as needed. </li><li>Manage incoming calls related to school bus routes and times. </li><li>Assist with hiring and processing paperwork for new bus operators. </li><li>Maintain and report bus fleet, mileage, and ridership information on time with the WVDE </li><li>Make recommendations to the superintendent on a regular basis for needs of maintenance of transportation system. </li><li>Maintain and upgrade professional skills. </li><li>Establish a network of effective communication among drivers, schools, and administrators and strive to provide leadership in problem solving. </li><li>Investigate disciplinary incidents that affect the safety of bus operation. Work with principals of school(s) to ensure appropriate, consistent disciplinary measures are taken to ensure safety of transportation. Work with staff to recommend effective disciplinary code for safe transportation of students on both regular and extracurricular runs. </li><li>Must have and maintain a valid class B CDL operator's license with a passenger and school bus endorsement in order to drive buses with students if absolutely necessary. </li><li>Regularly report to the superintendent concerning issues related to transportation. Submit a written and oral report to the Board of Education on a semi-annual basis concerning transportation issues. </li><li>Assume all other related duties and responsibilities as directed by the superintendent. </li></ul> <p>Job Description for Maintance:</p> <ul> <li>The coordinator of maintenance will assist the maintenance department and supervisior of maintenance in the upkeep of the buildings, grounds, and shops around the county. They are responsible for helping to assign jobs for cleaning, repair, and maintenance of all structures and mechanical and electrical equiptment. </li><li>Perform all assigned work orders efficiently and effectively. </li><li>Recommended that the person have atleast a two-year degree or at least five years of significant supervisory or employment experience in maintenance-related field. </li><li>Strong supervisory and communication skills. </li><li>Knowledge in the areas of maintenance. </li><li>A thorough knowldege of occupational hazards and safety precautions of maintenance trads is required. </li><li>Proficient knowldge in Life Safety Code, Uniform Building Code, ASHRAE 90.1, and ASHRAE 62 Code. </li><li>Successful completion of WV competenancy exam for job classification. </li><li>A working knowldge of federal and state laws and regulations regarding school facilities , grounds, and equipment. </li><li>Assists building administrators in managing and directing custodial operations within Monroe County Schools. </li><li>Qualified applicants will be interviewed, and successful completion of interview process, demonstrate all applicapable qualifications and requirements for the knowledge of this position, along with strong communication skills, must be demonstrated. </li></ul> <p>Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>High School graduate or GED </li><li>College degree preferred </li><li>Possess recognizable leadership skills </li><li>Working knowledge of school bus transportation or motor fleet management. </li><li>Must have five years driving/supervisory experience. </li><li>Must pass state transportation directors test and mechanic's test. </li><li>A working knowldge of federal and state laws and regulations regarding school facilities , grounds, and equipment. </li><li>Must be at least 21 years of age. </li><li>Must pass the Transportation Supervisor Test </li><li>Must pass the Maintenance Supervisor Test </li><li>Must pass the General Maintenance Test </li><li>Shall have five years of experience working in the transportation department of a county board. Experience working in the transportation department consists of serving as a bus operator, bus aide, assistant mechanic, mechanic, chief mechanic or in a clerical position within the transportation department; </li><li>Preferred experience in construction, maintenance, or mechanical job experience. </li><li>Preferred experience in supervising or evaluating employees. </li><li>Assume all other related duties and responsibilities as directed by the superintendent. </li></ul> <p>PHYSICAL DEMANDS:</p> <p>The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or print material, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.</p> <p>WORK ENVIRONMENT:</p> <p>The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The work environment includes indoor as well as outdoor settings and can range in temperature from below freezing to 90°F. The work surface can include unfinished crawl spaces and attics as well as rooftops, and concrete floors or pads. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud (60 -90 dB) due to the use of power tools. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works outdoors or indoors as needed. The employee will work near or with moving mechanical equipment while performing the duties of this job. The WV Legislature has determined that frequent teacher changes-especially in elementary grades-are not in the best interest of students. As a result, the Legislature intends to minimize personnel transfers between professional positions within the 20 days preceding the start of the instructional term.
