Key competencies for this position include communication, problem solving, teamwork, conflict resolution and organization.</p> <p>Examples Of Essential Duties</p> <ul> <li>Follows safe practices in the performance of duties. </li><li>Responsible for walk-in traffic to the Recycle Center for customers with questions related to the SW&R program. </li><li>Maintains daily direct communication with the City's contracted haulers, keeping them updated on services issues as well as updates from them on service-related issues. </li><li>Responds to customer inquiries, complaints, and issues related to the City's trash contract, including dealing with SWEEP officer violations and inspections. </li><li>Assists local businesses in creating sustainable solid waste & recycling solutions. </li><li>Responds to and investigates customer inquiries and issues via telephone, fax, e-mail, Fix It, and in writing and maintains appropriate records including misses, hauler issues and complaints. </li><li>Assists in managing the Property Violation Notice/Abatement process to include processing, printing, payments and mailing. </li><li>Responsible for troubleshooting issues and other concerns/complaints from the Solid Waste Hotline and 311 Fix It! Database. </li><li>Communicates property maintenance and solid waste related complaints to the SWEEP Officers. </li><li>Assists Environmental Program Coordinator/Manager of Solid Waste with special projects and the development of environmental education programs for schools and other groups </li><li>Follows safe practices in the performance of duties and maintains Drop-Off Facility in safe condition. </li><li>Provides prompt resolution of customer issues in a professional, courteous manner. </li><li>Responsible for timekeeping entry. </li><li>Ordering general office supplies </li><li>Entering Purchase orders, and invoices </li><li>Maintain GIS map database of customers </li><li>Create and manage opt in contracts </li><li>Keep social media/website/phone updates current to holidays, closures, service issues, early starts, etc. </li><li>Work with vendors to resolve issues, set up deliveries, etc. </li><li>Assists with preparing the yearly SW&R newsletter, i.e., data collection, calendar info, general info and design. </li><li>Responsible for maintaining the Adopt-It database, answering volunteer communication, assist with providing supplies. </li><li>Work with Recycle Center staff to compile data related to quantity of recyclable goods, revenue, costs and yearly totals. </li><li>Assist gathering DEP 904 recycling data from City businesses for the program. </li><li>Assists maintaining the permitted hauler list and issuing yearly permits. </li></ul> <p>Typical Qualifications</p> <p>Education, Training and Experience</p> <ul> <li>Graduation from High School or completion of a GED is required. </li><li>At least two (2) years' experience in dealing with the public as a customer service representative or closely related field is required. </li></ul> <p>Licenses and Certificates</p> <ul> <li>Possession of a valid Pennsylvania State Driver's License is required. </li></ul> <p>Knowledge, Skills and Abilities</p> <ul> <li>Knowledge of safe practices related to Public Works. </li><li>Proven proficiency in knowledge, understanding and use of the Microsoft (or similar) suite of tools (Word, and Excel Outlook or Lotus Notes) and mail merge functions is required. </li><li>Ability to learn and function independently on Windows platform and Tyler Munis. </li><li>Proven ability to interpret, verify, and accurately enter data into a computer database is required. </li><li>Proven ability to work well under pressure and to maintain positive interactions is required. </li><li>Positive interpersonal skills are required. </li><li>Proven ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment is required. </li><li>Proven ability to read, write, speak and comprehend English is required; proficiency in Spanish is preferred. </li><li>Proven ability to work as part of a team and to collaborate successfully with others is required. </li><li>Proven ability to adapt to new or changed situations and to show flexibility in making improvements in work processes and operations is required. </li><li>Proven ability to exhibit customer-centered behaviors and to focus on customer needs is required. </li><li>Proven ability to commit to excellence in service and to continuous improvement is required. </li><li>Proven ability to be responsible for handling and processing cash and checks. </li><li>Positive interpersonal skills are required; a high level of positive energy is required to deal effectively with the public in this position. </li><li>Proven ability to write legibly and to do math calculations of addition, subtraction, and multiplication and division is required; including developing formulas on excel spread sheets for reporting purposes. </li><li>Preferably Bilingual </li></ul> <p>Other Information</p> <p>Environmental Conditions</p> <ul> <li>Works indoors (with, or without, heat and/or air conditioning). </li></ul> <p>Safety Equipment Used or Needed</p> <ul> <li>None </li></ul> <p>Comments</p> <ul> <li>Exposure to irate customers. </li><li>Requires occasional lifting of up to 25 lbs. </li><li>Software skills evaluation is required. </li><li>This description was prepared to indicate the kinds of activities and levels of work difficulty required of positions in this class.
