<p>Hiring Department</p> <p>MU Housing, a department within the Division of Student Affairs, provides a world-class housing experience by engaging students within an innovative and educational environment that supports best on-campus housing practices and promotes student success.</p> <p>Job Description</p> <p>This application is intended ONLY for new Community Assistants (CA). Current CAs must apply to Job ID 59260 - Community Assistant (Student) - RETURNERS.</p> <p>All CA applicants (current staff and new applicants) must sign a housing contract at https://housing.missouri.edu/renew.</p> <p>Summary</p> <p>A CA for Tara Apartments supports the MU Housing mission and vision by enhancing residents' quality of life. CAs work closely with students, professional staff, and campus partners to foster a strong sense of community while prioritizing safety, security, and resident well-being. This role requires flexibility, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to manage administrative responsibilities.</p> <p>More than a friendly presence, the CA serves as a key connector in creating an environment where students develop independence and learn to live cooperatively with others. CAs are visible members of the apartment communities, setting expectations, enforcing University and Residential Life policies, and supporting a positive living environment.</p> <p>CAs contribute to community development through programming and engagement within the graduate apartment communities. They maintain a thorough understanding of emergency protocols, opening and closing procedures, and apartment operations. CAs also act as positive brand ambassadors for MU Housing by communicating the benefits of on-campus living and promoting employment opportunities within the department.</p> <p>MU Housing operates 24/7/365, and CA presence is critical to delivering exceptional services and experiences. Appointments and responsibilities span the Fall and Spring semesters, Summer terms, and standard opening and closing operations. CAs may also be required to work in apartment complexes during scheduled academic breaks and University closures.</p> <p>Essential Responsibilities</p> <p>CAs may perform some or all of the following duties and may be assigned to one or more service areas or functions.</p> <p>Community Development, Operational, and Departmental Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li> <p>Build a welcoming community within the assigned apartment complex by supporting and getting to know residents.</p> </li><li> <p>Establish relationships with residents by engaging regularly and serving as a consistent point of contact.</p> </li><li> <p>Serve as a leader within the apartment community, including managing and mediating roommate and resident conflicts.</p> </li><li> <p>Provide operational and administrative support for the assigned apartment complex, including:</p> </li><li> <p>Bi-weekly exterior walkthroughs to ensure safety compliance</p> </li><li> <p>Observing, reporting, and following up on facility issues</p> </li><li> <p>Monitoring adherence to MU Housing policies</p> </li><li> <p>Conducting Health & Safety inspections once per semester</p> </li><li> <p>Assisting with apartment inspections, occupancy checks, lockouts, check ins, and check outs as directed</p> </li><li> <p>Understand, carry out, and assist with emergency procedures and crisis response.</p> </li><li> <p>Enforce MU Housing and Residential Life policies and procedures.</p> </li><li> <p>Maintain cleanliness of communal spaces and respond to incidents involving bodily fluids as required.</p> </li><li> <p>Plan, coordinate, and attend community events and programs within the apartment complex.</p> </li><li> <p>Support and participate in programs and initiatives offered by MU Housing, Student Affairs, and the University of Missouri.</p> </li><li> <p>Maintain extensive knowledge of the University of Missouri, including academic programs and campus involvement opportunities.</p> </li><li> <p>Connect residents to leadership, service, involvement, and employment opportunities on campus and within MU Housing.</p> </li><li> <p>Support the University's academic mission by fostering an integrative learning environment through programming.</p> </li><li> <p>Collaborate with campus partners and support existing programs and initiatives while avoiding duplication of efforts.</p> </li></ul> <p>On-Call Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Participate in an on-call rotation with other CAs. </li><li>Answer the on-call phone from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. on weekdays and 24 hours on weekends. </li><li>Respond appropriately to incidents, emergencies, and resident needs while on call. </li></ul> <p>Required Attendance and Participation</p> <p>CAs are expected and required to arrive and depart campus as well as participate in the following in accordance with the dates outlined below:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Spring Orientation for 2026 - 2027 Resident Advisors and CAs (more information to come)</p> </li><li> <p>July 27 - 31, 2026: CA Training</p> </li><li> <p>Anticipate required participation between 8:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. daily</p> </li><li> <p>July 27, 2026: Apartment Pre-Inspections</p> </li><li> <p>July 31 - August 3, 2026: Tara Apartments Move in</p> </li><li> <p>August 15, 2026: Early Arrivals Move-In</p> </li><li> <p>Anticipate required participation between 8:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. daily</p> </li><li> <p>August 19 - 20, 2026: Mizzou Move-In</p> </li><li> <p>Anticipate required participation between 8:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. daily</p> </li><li> <p>September 26 - 27, 2026: Fall Health and Safety Inspections</p> </li><li> <p>January 14, 2027: RA Winter Training Check-In (arrive by 8 p.m.)</p> </li><li> <p>January 15 - 17, 2027: RA Winter Training</p> </li><li> <p>Anticipate required participation between 8:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. daily</p> </li><li> <p>February 20 - 21, 2027: Spring Health and Safety Inspections</p> </li><li> <p>March 27 - April 4, 2027: Spring Break</p> </li><li> <p>CAs will remain on call nightly</p> </li><li> <p>May 18, 2027: End of Year Hall Closing</p> </li><li> <p>Anticipate departure after 10 a.m.</p> </li><li> <p>June 8, 2027: Summer Term begins</p> </li><li> <p>CAs will remain on call nightly</p> </li><li> <p>Attend weekly Tuesday evening CA staff meetings.</p> </li><li> <p>Attend one-on-one meetings as scheduled by the supervisor.</p> </li><li> <p>Attend all CA training and other activities required by MU Housing. These include, but are not limited to, Spring Orientation, Fall CA Orientation, Tara Apartment Move-In, Fall RA/CA Training, Mizzou Move-In (Early Arrival, First Years, and Returning Students), Winter RA/CA Training, and Spring Move-Out/Summer Transition Closure activities.</p> </li><li> <p>Actively participate in the recruitment and selection of MU Housing Student Staff, which will require weekend commitments during the spring semester (anticipate early February 2027).</p> </li></ul> <p>ALL DATES AND TIMES ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE</p> <p>CAs serve for a full academic year, including fall, spring, and summer terms. The standard contract period runs from mid-July to mid-July, as outlined in the appointment letter.</p> <ul> <li>CAs who graduate in the fall, spring, or summer term must vacate their assigned housing within seven days of their graduation date. </li><li>CAs who withdraw from the University must vacate their assigned housing within seven days of their withdrawal date. </li><li>CAs who are not reappointed for the following academic year may remain in their assigned housing through the end of their current appointment and must continue fulfilling CA responsibilities during that time. </li><li>CAs who are reappointed may continue living in their assigned housing and fulfilling CA responsibilities. These individuals will transition to their new appointment contract in mid-July, as outlined in their appointment letter. </li></ul> <p>Additional Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Act as situationally critical staff and follow instructions when responding to situations that impact the residential communities. </li><li>Participate in training on a wide range of MU programs, services, and offerings, including appropriate methods for delivering information to residents. </li><li>Attend and actively participate in all required staff meetings and training sessions scheduled by the supervisor and department. </li><li>Perform additional duties and responsibilities as needed to support and advance the mission of MU Housing and Student Affairs. </li></ul> <p>Anticipated Hiring Range</p> <p>Compensation includes a furnished, two-bedroom staff apartment at Tara where utilities are included. The position also includes top-tier dining meal plan for the term of the appointment. Apartment assignment is at the discretion of MU Housing.</p> <p>Shift</p> <p>The CA role requires an average commitment of approximately 20 hours per week. Hours may vary based on departmental needs and may include evening and/or weekend work.</p> <p>This is a year-round position spanning the fall, spring, and summer terms. CAs are expected to maintain responsibilities during fall, winter, and spring academic breaks, as well as throughout the summer.</p> <p>Minimum Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>To be eligible for a student title, an individual must be enrolled at the University of Missouri. Enrollment in the summer session is not required if the student was enrolled in the spring semester and is pre-enrolled for the fall semester. </li><li>Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a student employment record review conducted by Student Affairs Human Resources, MU Housing, the Office of Student Accountability and Support, and the Office of Institutional Equity, as well as a criminal background check. </li><li>Must be eligible to live in graduate apartment housing at Mizzou.
