<p>Job Description:</p> <p>POSITION: Part-Time Disability Services Specialist (Staff Assistant): Center for Accessibility Resources & Services; Lawrence Campus (45 Franklin Street); MCCC/MTA Unit Professional Position; 30 hours/week, Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, 9:00am - 3:00pm, Tuesday 12:00pm - 6:00pm</p> <p>SUMMARY: Coordinates implementation of services and accommodations for students with documented disabilities, in including students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing appropriate to specific disability and consistent with disability law and standard practice in higher education. Conducts initial interviews, meets with students to discuss and review services, accommodations, policies, procedures, rights and responsibilities, self-advocacy, and other student management tasks.</p> <p>RESPONSIBILITIES: Specific duties for this position include:</p> <ul> <li>Coordinates implementation of services and accommodations for students with documented disabilities, appropriate to specific disability and consistent with disability law and standard practice in higher education. </li><li>Conducts initial interviews. </li><li>Meets with students to discuss and review services, accommodations, policies, procedures, rights and responsibilities, self-advocacy, and other student management tasks. </li><li>Provides follow up to students to review effectiveness of accommodations, adjustment to college, and provides disability-related educational support. </li><li>Offers expertise in recommending reasonable accommodations and development of Individual Accommodation Plans. </li><li>Must have the ability to understand and deal effectively with disability-related behaviors. </li><li>Facilitates student support groups and other training workshops as needed. </li><li>Refers students to campus and community resources. </li><li>Collaborates with other College departments to ensure consideration of disability related issues in academic planning. </li><li>Mediates with faculty as needed. </li><li>Day time hours and flexibility to work one late afternoon on one day per week. </li><li>The Classification Specification is available at: https://www.mass.edu/shared/classificationspecs/specsmccc/Staff Assistant - HB 1160.doc </li></ul> <p>Requirements:</p> <p>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree in Education, Rehabilitation Counseling, Special Education or related field </li><li>5 months of experience in disability services management in higher education or related field. </li><li>Experience with a wide range of disabilities such as Learning Disabilities, ADHD, Physical Disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorders, Chronic Illness and Psychiatric Disabilities, and individual who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing. </li><li>Experience and knowledge of the laws governing disability services in higher education. </li><li>Demonstrated experience developing and facilitating disability awareness training. </li><li>Demonstrated strong interpersonal, organizational and administrative skills. </li><li>Demonstrated ability to understand and deal effectively with disability-related behaviors. </li><li>Demonstrated experience collaborating with a diverse group of people. </li><li>Ability to work effectively with diverse student population and untraditional students. </li><li>Computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Access, Power Point, email, LMS, Internet etc. </li></ul> <p>PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <ul> <li>Master's degree in Education, Rehabilitation Counseling, Special Education or related field </li><li>Experience with video conferencing software such as ZOOM and MS TEAMS. </li><li>Experience working in a post-secondary setting providing accommodations and services. </li><li>Ability to work well under the demands of an academic timetable; to manage and prioritize a variety of tasks; and to work independently. </li><li>Experience with Banner (by Oracle), Degree Works, EAB Navigate Software </li><li>Knowledge of assistive technology used to support individuals with disabilities. </li><li>Ability to travel between campuses. </li><li>Bilingual (Spanish/English) </li><li>Experience working with and supporting a culturally diverse population </li></ul> <p>EQUIVALENCY STATEMENT: Applicants who do not meet the qualifications as noted above are encouraged to put in writing precisely how their background and experience has prepared them with the equivalent combination of education, training, and experience required for the responsibilities of this position.</p> <p>BACKGROUND CHECK: Candidates will be required to pass a CORI and SORI check as a condition of employment.</p> <p>Additional Information:</p> <p>GRADE AND SALARY: Anticipated salary range is $55,083.60 ($35.31/hour) annually with complete fringe benefit package. Actual salary calculated in compliance with MCCC/MTA classification system. Complete fringe benefit package including competitive health insurance, free dental insurance, basic life insurance, long-term disability insurance, paid sick, vacation and personal leave, educational benefits for employee/spouse/dependents, and excellent retirement benefits. Actual salary calculated in compliance with MCCC/MTA classification system.
