Your expertise will help ensure these high-stakes vehicles are always ready to roll, empowering heroes to respond quickly and effectively. If you would like to view your Total Rewards Statement upon hire, clickhere </li></ul> <p>To learn more about our department, click here!</p> <p>ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS</p> <ul> <li>Inspects, diagnoses, installs, maintains, repairs, and reconditions mechanical defects in automobiles, trucks, specialized fire apparatus, and other department equipment. </li><li>Performs preventative maintenance and general overhaul and repair work on computerized ignition and fuel injection systems, exhaust after treatment systems, differentials, steering components, transmissions, brake and suspension systems, air conditioning systems, hydraulic systems, large capacity water pumps, diesel and gasoline engines, boats and marine engines, pumps, dry chemical systems, generators, self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), aerial ladders, and other firefighting related equipment. </li><li>May be required to construct/rebuild parts by hand or machine and remove and repair/replace equipment or vehicle body parts. </li><li>May perform emergency repairs of apparatus and equipment on emergency scenes or fire grounds. </li><li>Services equipment by lubrication, changing oil and filters. </li><li>Provides on-call after hours support on rotational basis. </li><li>May conduct investigations, coordinate various functions, and other details needed to solve the varied technical problems encountered in the maintenance and repair of equipment. </li><li>Maintains records of repairs, parts used, and labor expended; orders or obtains parts and supplies as needed. </li><li>Operates County vehicle to pick up parts and supplies from vendors to road test vehicles repaired, or to make service calls. </li><li>Operates hand tools, modern mechanical power tools, and electrical equipment to assist in tasks assigned. </li><li>Performs routine shop maintenance and housekeeping tasks. </li><li>Provides exceptional customer assistance, problem-solving, and/or complaint resolution by all forms of communication. </li></ul> <p>Min. Education, Licenses and Certifications</p> <p>Education and Experience:</p> <p>An equivalent combination of relevant training, education and experience:</p> <ul> <li>High school diploma or equivalent supplemented by vocational or technical training in automotive maintenance and repair. </li><li>Five (5) years of experience as a journeyman level mechanic including experience in hydraulics, automotive and heavy truck chassis, gasoline and diesel engines and related components, electrical and charging systems, and large capacity water pumps and related components. </li></ul> <p>Licenses and/or Certificates:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Within three (3) months of position assignment:</p> </li><li> <p>Must maintain a valid "B" Florida Commercial Driver's License (CDL)</p> </li><li> <p>Within one (1) year of position assignment:</p> </li><li> <p>Must maintain Brake Inspector as per CFR (Code of Federal Regulations) 396.25</p> </li><li> <p>Preferred:</p> </li><li> <p>Emergency Vehicle Technician certificate</p> </li><li> <p>Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification</p> </li></ul> <p>Knowledge, Skills and Abilities</p> <ul> <li>Knowledge of departmental policies, plans, and procedures. </li><li>Knowledge of modern office practices, plans, and procedures. </li><li>Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other job-related computer programs and software applications. </li><li>Knowledge of the construction, assembly, adjustment, operation, and maintenance of diversified automotive and diesel equipment, light and heavy fire apparatus, including aerial devices, and ability to diagnose defects or malfunctions of same. </li><li>Knowledge of automotive electrical and charging systems. </li><li>Knowledge of complex hydraulic systems and components and the ability to diagnose and repair same. </li><li>Knowledge of fire department related equipment and the ability to diagnose defects and repair same. </li><li>Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade. </li><li>Knowledge of metals, machinery, welding, and brazing. </li><li>Skill in effective communication, both orally and in writing. </li><li>Skill in prioritizing and organizing work. </li><li>Skill in the use of office equipment such as a computer, multi-line telephone system, scanner, fax machine, and copier. </li><li>Ability to make recommendations and to use resourcefulness and tact in solving new problems. </li><li>Ability to work from schematics and blueprints. </li><li>Ability to troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and operational problems on light and heavy fire apparatus and other department vehicles. </li><li>Ability to weld, fabricate, install electrical and electronic equipment, and operate all equipment maintained. </li><li>Ability to ascertain priorities and meet deadlines and objectives. </li><li>Ability to maintain accurate records and reports. </li><li>Ability to operate a motor vehicle/emergency vehicles. </li><li>Ability to provide internal/external guidance and customer assistance via all forms of communication. </li><li>Ability to use computers for data entry, word processing, and/or accounting purposes. </li><li>Ability to author reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. </li><li>Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with managers, service providers, other employees, and the general public. </li></ul> <p>Supplemental Information</p> <p>PHYSICAL DEMANDS</p> <p>Stooping, crouching, walking, pulling, lifting, grasping, hearing, seeing up close, kneeling, reaching, pushing, talking, standing, finger movement, repetitive motions. Frequent lifting of up to 25 pounds; occasional lifting up to 50 pounds.</p> <p>WORK ENVIRONMENT</p> <p>Work typically requires moderate exposure to one or more disagreeable conditions (i.e., irate customers, outdoors weather conditions, excessive noise, extreme heat, odors, or dust).</p> <p>RISK/SAFETY CONDITIONS</p> <p>The position requires some exposure or risk to physical health and/or physical safety (e.g., exposure to environmentally hazardous material, assault and battery, heavy equipment, communicable disease, etc.).</p> <p>To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essential job functions satisfactorily.
